Amazon Prime sucks massive donkey balls

Seeing the increase was a catalyst for me to reconsider whether I actually get value out of prime, and I don't think I do. Only occasionally find some prime TV series I want to watch, and don't get as much stuff from amazon as I used to. Never used prime music / books / gaming / wardrobe either.

So I went to try and cancel my annual renewal (which won't be until early next year) and the cheeky beggars only have an option to cancel immediately (so wasting the rest of the year), or send a reminder three days before renewal! No option to just turn off auto-renewal! Really cheeky scam. Set a reminder in my calendar though so hopefully won't forget when the time comes.

They do that with Apple Music / TV sub. If you cancel it cuts you off immediately, regardless if you have time left before the next renewal.

I just set a reminder, not a big deal.

I went about the increase in a slightly different way and decided to look at what services I wasnt using with my Prime subscription, I downloaded 30 odd GB of family photos, videos and docs from OneDrive, cancelled my OneDrive subscription which was £2 a month, uploaded everything to Amazon.

Amazon increase monthly subscription by £1, I save a £1, therefore I win.

It’s still incredible value but what I will do and should have done years ago is share prime with my sister who also has prime. You can share all benefits with one family member, why we are both paying for it makes no sense.

Yea doing that now, we have two accounts in the househols and I will be reducing it to one. I have 25 days to my next billing cylcle so have time to renew for a year at £79 rather than pay the new £8.99 a month.

I'm not sure it actually cancels it right away, but you can always jump onto the live chat and query it with them.

dont forget the bags of free games you get, some are proper good as well, mass effect remastered trilogy, Star wars squadrons, battlefront 2, need for speed, grid autosport, and 100s more, different games every month to keep.

probably telling your grandma how to suck eggs, but it is poorly advertised and the amount of gamers i know with prime who when i told of the free games had no idea is really surprising.

Is there any way of setting up a notification? I'm an occasional gamer more recently (well last winter during lockdowns :p) so it was nice to pick up a few relatively recent/well known titles for free.

Where do you claim it?

actually am glad i looked there is some warframe stuff there i didnt have!.

not all the stuff is full games so dont get too excited if you see BF2042 etc, scroll down to the full games. Typically at the moment there are fewer free games than i have seen in ages. iirc there were 30 free games on amazon prime day

The biggest problem i see is that it keep asking me to link the game. 1st world problem is that I don't remember if I even have an EA account and that I have a Xbox and PS5 and a Steam Deck...how do I know what platform to claim that on?

if you dont have an EA account you will have to make one - which you would if you got many of these games on pc anyway.

the account will be what ever account you use to play non steam EA games on your Steam Deck. (used to be called origin account but i think they are in the process of changing it). Some games will be tied to your amazon account, others - generally the AAA titles - you will need to link your steam, origin, uplay, GOG or Bethesda etc account.

Up until recently (a month ago) you woulkd have been given a game key to activate on a website however these keys invariably ended up on key sellers sites like cdkeys or kinguin etc so i guess the forced linking is to stop that.

Guess I need to create a lot of accounts! Like one for each Publisher.

just make sure you dont already have one otherwsie it gets awkward.

you will already have a steam one.

if you plan on playing many pc games then these are almost a given

https://ubisoftconnect.com/en-GB/ (formerly uplay, sorry for calling it that before i am stuck in the past)

then there are some which you may need on a per game basis (WarFrame and Warthunder are 2 Free to play games which have a lot of free content on prime, these games are well worth a look...... then you may also want a rockstar account.... but for starters the top 5 will get you going.
Epic games also give 1 or 2 free games away every week (change over is ..... 6pm on a Thursday UTC iirc)

it is a PITA and you may also want to get a password manager!.

I haven’t had a PC since 2008 so besides Steam password, and possibly EA, I’ve not played any PC games.
