AMD 6800 & 6800 XT MBA LAUNCH AT 2PM TODAY - EXTREMELY LIMITED STOCK!

I really don`t understand people complaining about the prices. It`s the market right now. They should complain about the scalpers which ruin the market for genuine buyers. I needed 2 cards and was lucky to get one yesterday direct from AMD which was an RX6800XT. Is it nice that the prices have gone up, not at all?

Only you and you alone can decide if you are willing to pay that amount or not. We can actually be happy that OC informed us here they could have sold it yesterday for sure they did not and informed members in the Forum " Missed a chance, here you got a second one "

And on the other hand yes they want to make money and this is their god-given right.

Are you telling me that if the PS5 was announced at £450 but then went up to £550 on release people would be fine with it? Come on...

I just can't fathom paying the premium performance price, for bad entry level hardware.

The 6800 at 599 is awful lol.

It's really not though is it.

Earlier in the year I said to myself that I would buy the first card that can provide 2080ti performance for £500. The 6800 provides more performance than that for slightly more money.

I paid £500 for my GTX 1080 about 3 years ago. For an extra £99 I am getting about double the performance. To me that represents pretty good value. Plus I will recoup a chunk of that money selling my 1080.

Paying an extra £80 over MSRP to get a card right now instead of god knows when is easily worth it. People are buying 3090's they don't really need just to get a GPU now spending £700 or £800 more for the privilege. That is awful value.

That is a crap excuse, you don't see this with other items so why does it happen to GPU's? If these products were as popular at PS5's, OCUK would get hammered for doing this crap, but they wont because these are niche products when compared. OCUK are scaping so I don't know why you would put them in a separate category to those on Ebay. Is it OK to scalp just as long as it is not too much??

Exactly this if Curry's started listing PS5s at 549.99 there would be uproar. Like I said OCUK has a small captive market, and they take the ****, because the market is small they get away with it.

I'll be keeping my 5700XT for quite some time based on this fiasco honestly.

This is where I'm at.
A GPU that was meant to be a stop gap until the real cards came out lol.

Problem with this launch is 599 here is XT money for a Non XT card, pushing the XT up to 3080 money. The prices don't make sense and if people stopped allowing it retailers wouldn't try their luck every damn release, what we have now is a situation where people are allowing themselves to be taken advantage of. Retailers are laughing at the fact they know you will buy it regardless of the price. What we have here specifically but also at other retailers is a straight 13.2% mark up on an rrp where there is already some fat built in so what somewhere in the region of 25% margins?

For me I won't be taken advantage of and will wait for a card at RRP.

I think you've got the title wrong - at this price it should be the XT model

Genuinely giggled.

2020:
- Year we all got locked indoors
- Year tons of people lost their jobs
- Year that people tried to obscenely profit from product releases

It's bizarre how other retailers have sold for nearer RRP, I guess they'll go to the wall soon.

that being said @ 549 I bet they'd still all sell out, uproar or not.

I just think paying the price of a 6800XT for a 6800 seems like pretty bad value, and encouraging this behavior is even worse.

But fair enough, your money, your choice. Enjoy it :D.

They would, but crucially, they wouldn't do it. Unlike OCUK.

The difference is Microsoft and Sony are very strict on their sale price of the consoles and so you find larger companies such as Currys stick to the RRP because of contracts. Smaller companies whom purchase through 3rd party distributes at different prices generally are where you see increased prices of consoles compared to RRP. The same goes pretty much for all mobile phones and Apple products. Unfortunately general PC components don't as the market overall is much more niche compared to that and with vendors generally being much smaller compared to your Currys or similar.

Do I think this price was too much from OcUK, yeah I do and honestly think they should have left them at loss leaders because the unit count to the loss in revenue would be outweighed by those willing to purchase AIB's from next week at the generally inflated costs would have sat much better overall.

With the way things are going it might even hold it value

You just need to look at how much 1080ti's are going for on ebay! Between £350 and £450! A £599.99 6800 is a bargain compared to that. I almost bought a £350 1080ti a month ago which would have no warranty and who knows how much life left in it. I am glad I didn't! My £599.99 6800 should be here in half an hour. Can't wait!

If a product sells out globally within minutes, even at above RRP, then that's a clear indication that the price was too low to begin with.

That isn't true at all. Because it takes many more factors than that. You have to take into account the market size, the current financial situation and similar. All these cards since the 10 series from Nvidia and the like have been priced about 50% more than that of previous generations for the same performance leaps in honesty. Having a top end performing card at £450-£500 mark was pretty consistent for well over a decade prior to the 20 series release and the added Ti range in the 10 series even.
