AMD FX-9000 - FX-8770 CPU's.

Its cool ^^^^ :)

http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2274168/amd-announces-5ghz-fx9590-processor

AMD said that its FX-9000 series chips initially will be available to OEMs and system builders and did not say when the retail channel will see the chips. However the firm is expected to release Steamroller chips before the end of the year and many will find that the performance boost derived from architecture improvements will be more attractive.

Yes, indeed. get on with it....

We have one of these CPU in the office. Interesting!!! to say the least.

oh? are we going to see any results from it? :)

That may be £586 at real exchange rates, but in retail that would translate to around £750!!!

At stock speeds, this bad boy should marginally outperform a stock Haswell i7 in most tasks so £300 would be fair. Add in rarity and, hopefully, some phenomenal potential overclocks (I'm thinking ~6Ghz with off-the-shelf water cooling), and a pricetag of £400 would be reasonable.

I would expect £600 in reality, though :)

And don't talk to me about efficiency - what are we? Hippies?

I'm pretty sure I said it's going to be crazy priced....... I'm also pretty sure that this was the rumoured pricing when it was first rumoured about which was well before E3 :p.

What about the 3930K which comes in at 430? It's an undeniable better buy than an equally/higher priced 8 core PD chip.

How do you know how it will perform?

How do you know how it will perform?

Well we can guess can't we?
It's just a higher clocked FX83.

It'll be 700-800MHZ faster than the FX8350 depending on the application.
So it's gaining ~20% performance.

It probably won't clocking much higher than what it's at though, so an i7 4770K that you can clock is probably going to be a much better buy, but the 4770K will probably be much cheaper than this CPU.

That all make sense just the only thing niggling at me is the price tag...

If they knew its be competing with the 4770k why price it £250-£300 higher?

AMD normally go for value...

Well, this CPU has that unquantifiable property of exclusivity.

The majority of Porsche drivers don't utilise the phenomenal performance of their cars, so why do they buy something which, by most day to day standards, is worse than a BMW? Because it's a damn Porsche - that's why.

This CPU is 5Ghz! at Stock! * and there's very limited numbers. Who wouldn't want one of those :D

* yeah, ok, with turbo

I suspect this is just an attempt by AMD to make PD look a little bit more respectable on the benchmark front, AMD usually do this with GPU's (ie. 7970 Ghz edition) as they know reviewers tend to only use reference/stock chips, so they release a new faster clocked model in limited quantity.

I doubt they are looking to sell many given the price tag as an overclocked 1155 i7 will probably still outperform it in most cases and a 3930K should run rings around it.

AMD are doing an Nvidia.

Very high price for this, and then later this year release a 5Ghz 8 core steamroller for £350, which might actually be worth that.

So it a little bit of 'Willy waving'?

"look at how good our 5Ghz 8 core chip performs, shame its £600"

Then 3 months later:

"We have a new 5Ghz 8 core chip for £350.. Nearly half peice, what a bargain...."
