"AMD"Gaming evolved DVR beta

Did some actual benchmarks with DVR on/off.No real difference in FPS.Great tool
Raptr_DVR_on_off.png

On June 22 2014 I posted single GPU run's on 5 games and noted no real difference in FPS hit.
Benchmark runs you can always get a few percentage difference.
Anyway I took the same data from the benchmark runs and added a data table for difference in % of min, avg, max.

Just to show inconsistency of some runs with Game DVR on, some benches the percentage was higher.
For me this just shows that Game DVR is very good when recording and is the only software I will use from now on with AMD cards.

EDIT:
I decided too retest the games with 14.7 driver. All test turned out about the same as previously benched. For me I see no point in listing every setting for the games.Someone else can do that.I will upload the settings and raw data for Tomb Raider if anyone wants to check the video.

R9 290 single card Clocks 1150/1600.

DVR settings set to high(50Mbs/60FPS/1080)

Game Min FPS Avg FPS Max FPS

Tomb Raider DVR On 44 59.6 80
Tomb Raider DVR Off 46 59.7 82

Watch or dowwnload raw video with settings.

Gerard, what quality setting did you use mate on the recording? There needs to be a truly transparent settings list we all agree on if people are to compare the performance hit (if it exists) or not.

I'm by no means saying your results are wrong or falsified etc, I'm just curious if you used 1080p max settings, or a lower bitrate setting that'll naturally have a far lower performance hit.

ps, recording to an SSD?

Can I install this without installing CCC guys? Any time I update drivers I only install the display driver, i'm hoping this doesn't need any additional crap to run.

Excellent, thanks Gregster. Plan on re-formatting the PC next week on Friday so will give this a tazz. :)

A clever program and worked well for me :) I need to learn some video editing to do some clever stuff and will have a play with something when I am off next.

Well I will try to answer best I can ,I deleted all the video's from the tests and it was over a month so I do not remember all the details exactly. The settings were the same with DVR on/off.

Resolution was 1920x1080 (except physx turned off for all games.AA varied per game)

Games on a Raid 0 4TB hard drives and recorded to SSD raid 0.(temp file can not remember which drive it was on when recording)

I am tempted to install the app next time I update my drivers, just to try it.
However I think it was Shanks that pointed out in one of the ShadowPlay threads (before the AMD app was out) that until it can do the split audio recording from separate sources into separate audio tracks then it won't be a lot of use to the 'pro' recorders.

Are you a 'pro recorder' though? I'm certainly not aware of any recording credentials you have GM. :p

And as long as my neighbour shares that opinion I hope she'll continue to sunbathe topless...

But no I'm not, doesn't mean I don't care about what are the best tools for the task.

As I've said before I also don't want to be someone that records and uploads every game I play as though I expect someone to give a ****. But if I do record I like to use the best app for the job, which I think Shanks implied was Dxtory.

EDIT:
To clarify I'm not saying that everything that anyone records is rubbish, but I'm sure lots of people are recording stuff that has no real reason to be recorded other than the fact that they can.

@Gerard,

I didn't mean the settings of the game mate, I meant the settings of the GVR. Sorry, should have been more specific. If the GVR quality is set to a low bitrate, it'll have far less of an impact on performance than say a higher, better quality setting. For comparison reasons, these settings should be known ideally!

Ah very good, its actually identical to shadowplays highest settings at the same res. Guessing it uses the same H.264 codec?

Correct James. Interesting it's identical. :p

Just need to get 1440P/1600P and Mantle support and i will be delighted. Until then i will stick with Mirillis Action unless I'm recording at 1080P.

Aye I'm quite surprised to be honest. I know the earlier versions of it had lower quality and sure shadowplay does record at higher res, but for youtube, whats the point. Looks like the performance hit is about the same as well with the standard variance of benchmarking taking into account.

Yes, I do remember him saying that about Dxtory too, not too long ago if memory serves.
Doesn't seem like an argument against the point I made by mentioning his original point though.
Surprised nobody has posted any of these Dxtory resulting using the AMD VCE stuff yet. Interested to see if the results are the same as the GE App (Quality and performance hit).
