AMD launches B550 motherboards

Don't you mean some officially nuts pricing?
No wonder ScottiB is having to fight over pricing they get to buy them.

Yeah...

Was considering either the MSI carbon or tomahawk, the ASRock steel legend, or the Aorus elite, but at those prices I may as well spend the extra £30-40 and buy the x570 variants (or stick with my b450-a pro)

This, I'm thinking better future proofing for high speed nvme & pcie 4 GPUs.

Saying that, the chipset fan is a downside, so... Meh

I'm not bothered by PCI Gen4 lanes, reason being only going to use one video card and one M2 slot and SATA HD, so minimal hardware for me motherboard wise with regards to PCI Gen4 etc... however X570 looks more tempting price wise if what I expect B550s will be priced higher then what most people expect, so I'm leaning towards X570 at the moment regardless of hardware and PCI Gen4 etc...
Btw with regards to chipset fan on X570, most boards seem to have a quiet one so that is not really an issue IMHO.

Anyway not long to find out, only days away for UK pricing :) .

I took the 12+2 phases from their website, either way I look forward to seeing how it does.
When we see overclocking results and heat tests etc we should see the B550s that are doing great and built well, throw in price as well if you don't overclock and just want a board with good features etc so very soon we'll know either way.

:)

Aye. Gigabyte were the first with dodgie marketing and paid the price and learnt their lesson haha .

Although 90amp phases found in z490 and x670 range will have to use doublers :/

Looking at these new models and prices, why would anyone buy a B550 that costs the same or more as an X570 with amazing features like the new MSI X570 Tomahawk? Unless the price is considerably cheaper than an X570 then buying a B550 makes no sense to me.

I would not be surprised with poor sales of B550 due to pricing, they may have to lower the price even more if sales don't pick up, corona virus hitting production and costs is one thing, but when they are too close to X570 boards pricing wise they are not doing themselves any favours.

We may see X570 sales pick up :), right now I'm very much leaning towards X570, I don't think pricing on B550 boards will be good enough to sway me.

Side note: I wonder how well the MSI B550 Tomahawk will do :) .

Looks like something to do with the power top edge of the motherboard, little IC.
Is that near CPU's 12V power connector and what's ther specific motherboard?
VRM controll chip is usually exposed, but it should die without visible damage.
MOSFETs again can be without heatsinks in low end boards and those can get damaged/destroyed with clear physical signs.

It's properly blown, big black charred area around the IC.

I have just seen the pricing for the ASUS Rog Strix B550-I Gaming mini ITX board at £226, I am very tempted as I want down size my current HTPC from a full size case to an ITX. The connectivity spec looks good with the 2.5G Lan and Wifi 6 onboard, display port and HDMI 2.1 outputs. Is anyone else looking at mini ITX options?
