The 5700 XT was announced at $450. AMD reduced it just before launch. The 2070S was a fair bit faster at launch.

This. All initial stock had rebates from Nvidia so they could be sold at MSRP. Now that has gone, even when stocks become plentiful again, nobody will be able to buy cards at MSRP but that wont matter. All of the reviews used MSRP and in future generations when people do price comparisons it will be against 3000 series MSRP not what they actually sold for.
Cheapest 3080 I saw had a MSRP of £579 and there were at least 8 cards from different manufacturers all set to be as cheap or cheaper than the FE.
Some 3070s are now listed at the 3080 MSRP :s - they seem to have pulled it now but 1-2 3070 models had crept up to just under £800 which is just silly albeit they aren't available yet.

Bear in mind though the 5700 XT was pitched at the 2070. The Supers were a response to AMD beating the 2070 and 2060 at competitive pricing.

Nvidia will still have a trickle of Founders Editions just to perpetuate the MSRP lie, but in the real world the 3080 is going to be around £800. Same with Pascal; could you ever actually buy a 10 series direct from Nvidia very often?

Nvidia use a broken samsung 8nm node so this wasn't surprising with wattage, heat and supply.

its a good brand name i guess, but what about naming lower end cards, cant see them calling it" little big navi", or "not quite a big navi"

Also 2070Super came as an answer and later 5700XT could slowly catch up to it in performance.

I could care less about that at this point. I'm talking about the strategy they are using now.
No one knows what the exact performance of what sku. How AMD played this long game, even setting the launch date to the end of the month, sneak peek of "6000 Series", etc. is looking to be a brilliant strategy IMO.
I don't find it a coincidence of the timing of AMD's launch date, keeping things quite and removing all leaks. While seeing so many fails from Ampere, AIB's and Nvidia so far.

Yes it a theoretical max of 315 watts, but they only measured 190 watts during actual gameplay, says to me RDNA2 GPUs are going to be very very efficient, like very.

Just think about that for a minute....a **70 series card...at £800!! Remember when the GTX970 cards were the go to of choice for gamers (vRAM issues aside) now the 70 series of generation cards are out of reach for most.

No kidding, 2080ti owners in particular got shafted hard, less than two years after giving them over a grand. This launch has been beyond disastrous, even when you consider the pandemic.
Gamers are hoping Lisa Su is going to ride in on a massive white stallion, hold up a bignavi2 card like a shining beacon and save us all from this high-price-no-stock Nvidia nightmare.
Personally, I don't see it happening. For the next six-twelve months, the consoles are where the party is at if you are a gamer. If you are only interested in high frames per second, then prepare to pay a price and/or wear out your f5 key.

Just guessing but I think one of the AIBs was hoping to cash in on the 3080 shortage with the 3070 release but that probably went out the window when the date got pushed back - they are back down to just the 3080 MSRP now.
I mean... at the very least it looks like AMD are going to bring out a faster card than the 2080ti with probably an MSRP closer to half the 2080ti so 2080ti owners are gonna get shafted either way... it has been that way more often than not in GPU generation changes so I don't have much sympathy.
One of the reasons I've often gone for one behind the bleeding edge unless buying early on a new generation and when SLI was a thing going for 2x one back from top in SLI over 1x top GPU.
So thinking about it further, 190W for entire XSX.
The CPU is basically a 4800U that's at a static frequency, a 4800U when running cinebench according to notebookcheck is 50W, but it boosts itself higher, plus gaming uses less CPU than cinebench. Looking at a few places the core power draw is just over 40W when gaming, so for the XSX, the CPU portion is maybe 30-35W.
Take off everything else within the console that it requires to run than a GPU wouldn't need.
Would give about 130W for the GPU itself then memory on top of that.
A 130W GPU that has the power of about a 2080Super.
