AMD Navi 23 ‘NVIDIA Killer’ GPU Rumored to Support Hardware Ray Tracing, Coming Next Year

Nvidia getting Ray Tracing exclusivity ahead of anyone else on this years mist anticipated game, ahead of their rivals, consoles and around the launch of their newest cards... Surely not!?! :)

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Nvidia paid off CDPR to hold off Ray Tracing on other cards and platforms for a while, to make their god awful ampere launch and products look more appealing..

How many people are buying this game and new cards for it? Tons..

Ampere launch and reception has been less than stellar, so how better to make it look a product you want to have, by paying off the hottest game around to showcase your blackbox junk, not like they dont have form for this kind of nonsense.

Jokes on them though as im not overly interested in Ray Tracing and im definitely not expecting AMDs first go to be any good, and im pretty sure im not alone in this, so i will be buying AMD regardless if they match 3080 perf at a reasonable price

DXR is an extension of DX 12 ultimate. Any game that uses DXR for RT will run on an card that supports DX12 ultimate.

I haven't heard of NVIDIA rayworx yet, but it could happen i suppose

It's got nothing to with DXR compatibility. Of course all RT code/algos supplied by Nvidia will be eventually converted to DXR calls.. but Nvidia eventually owns the code/algorithm and may licence it with certain constraints.. AMD can do that as well

I'm not too bothered about it, I probably won't even notice it to any great degree.

In the most recent PC Gamer magazine CDPR said they were working to make the game look great regardless of whether RT is on or not so no big deal.

I probably don't even need an upgrade to play cyberpunk at nice quality... It's not a requirement for me to upgrade at all tbh and ill most likely be more than happy playing through it with the kit I have. For example I am currently playing through Saints Row The Third on my 13" 4700u laptop with an xbox pad plugged in and it gets 50 - 60 fps medium settings and I can play it sitting on the sofa. I could just play it on the desktop but im happy with the sofa bound experience for a dip in gfx quality :) I think what im saying is I got to a certain age and stopped caring as much as I used to.

@Vince - the required specs don't even seem that high for CP2077. Will be interesting to see how it runs.

I plan on playing 3440x1440 on a Threadripper 1950x, 64gb 3466 and a Radeon 7 - Hardly "high end" by todays standards but I bet it gives a very nice experience with a good amount of stuff cranked up. I have yet to find a game I can't play with everything cranked up and it being smooth as butter.

Mind you I may yet buy one of these - Depends how excited I get in a few weeks. It's actually my birthday next this week so I could buy myself a nice present but what with the wife getting made redundant money is probably better served elsewhere, then again I do need some toys.

Some more clarification from same source:

The number of CU for 21 must be a multiple of 8. And, XT is full-fat. (assumed 80 by me)

"Although I personally think 64 is more possible but I can't rule out the possibility of 72. And I really didn't expect 22 to be such a '40+192' configuration." (56, 64, 80 CU, my interpretation, salt advised as always)

My assumption, based on not a great deal is Navi 21 will likely be 80/72 CU, Navi 22 will be 40/48/56 and Navi 23 will be 24/32. This is just based on very rough interpretations of what has been written though, nothing concrete.

Yes it does. Any game game that uses DX12 for its graphics API, and utilising DXR for RT implementation will run on any hardware that has compatibility with DX12 ultimate.

What you are suggesting is NVIDIA created their own version of DXR, and implemented it in CP2077 along with other NVIDIA propriety tech. No where has this been stated by the developers or by NVIDIA that they have their own propriety RT API. RTX is NVIDIAs brand name for the hardware implementation.

Additionally, why would the developers use a propriety version of DXR, when it won't run on AMD hardware and hence the consoles in future, and require a rewrite of the game engine.

Show me any game which uses a propriety NVIDIA version of DXR

When RDNA2 launches and AMD has a game ready driver, CP2077 with RT will work on this cards. With what performance is the only question

Sorry to hear that mate :( maybe you can employ her as the mining rig maintenance person? :)

No man..that's not what I am saying..
Let's say if Nvidia has a better method of employing DXR to generate some effects, that method becomes their IP and they can licence it the way they want.. it's just like anyother software like you can't use unreal engine's RT implementation in your game without licensing it from them, inspite of them using DXR
