But are Nvidia going to give you 2080Ti plus performance for $499 where it costs £1200 today possibly 6months away from release?

Every xx70 card recently has given xx80ti type performance, at the xx70 price point, why would this change for this new generation, some people seem to want NVidia to keep charging more and more it is crazy.

Some people need to stop getting mixed up between what people want to happen and what they think will happen.

The 20 series moved the price points up to where people were getting pretty much the same performance for the same money as the previous generation..."plus ray tracing."

Now, if you compare the 10 series to the 9 series, THAT was a good generation improvement. The 1070 was around $400 and performed about where the $700 980ti did. IIRC

You have to remember that the 20 series is the first time we have seen the XX80ti launched at the same time as the XX80.

Maybe they will do the same again to allow them to maintain the higher prices, we will have to wait and see.

Absolutely no way. No chance whatsoever. Zero. Zilch. Nada :p

It would be hilarious and sad at the same time (to see a £600 3070). And I hope it would start to put people off nVidia and their extreme gouging of consumers.

But I don't think it would even at that price. People would clamour to justify the hike (to themselves as much as anyone), and wallets would come out, sooner rather than later..

All they need to do to sweeten the deal is probably throw in some new shiny feature and bingo, people will trip over themselves to tell you how you can't really compare the 3070 to the 2070, because X,Y,Z..

At that point though most people would buy a new console for similar performance at a similar price. I would. 2080ti performance needs to be at no more than the cost of a xsx or ps5.

This where I'm at.

I run a 6700K and 1070Ti system which does me fine at 1080p and 144Hz, bit underpowered for VR but it copes. I've never spent more than £400 on a GPU. If I wanted to upgrade to next gen card when they release, I'd likely have to upgrade whole system to make the most of it and then a new 1440p or 4k monitor, because what would be the point of upgrading for 1080p. So, realisticly that's a £2,000 upgrade as things stand.

I have a 4k OLED. PS5/XSX game devs are hinting more and more and M&KB support in games. I'll likely be able to pick one of those up for c. £600 max.

I cant be alone in that situation and with so many still gaming at 1080p I really think that Nvidia (and AMD to an extent) have to seriously adjust the pricing of the next gen to see any real sales volume outside of the loyal adopters who will buy no matter what. Not because pricing is bonkers atm (which it is) but because the timing of the next gen consoles is going to give me (and millions of others) a genuine affordable alternative to consider.

The elephant in the room being of course that we don't know what price the consoles will launch at.

I don't think the new consoles are going to lower high-end GPU pricing at all. Wishful thinking. I know that as a value proposition a £1500 3070 is terrible v a £500 or so next-gen console, but NV and AMD (in particular) will take the hit of a few people buying a console instead to protect their profit per card and their whole tiered pricing structure, because remember if 3070/Big Navi come in at let's say £800 then that pushes everything else to be cheaper and sets a precdent they don't want setting. And of course AMD are gaining all those who migrate to console anyway.

Some people will definitely throw the towel in on PC gaming, but that will not force GPU's prices down anywhere near to where they should be. And NV in particular know they have a devoted niche who will buy their halo card at whatever prices it comes in at, there are people on this forum who would buy the new 3070ti on day 1 if it came in at £2000. We know this.

True, but I think it's pretty clear to everyone what the approximate console pricing range is going to be. Same cannot be said for next gen of GPU's. Sony and Microsoft aren't obligated to protecting a profit margin on the hardware like Nvidia and AMD are so there's no way IMO they will be above £700, more like £500 to £600 I would place them. Even against current GPU offerings, that's gonna turn some people.

Completely agree.

On launch at least, I don't see console prices driving down PC GPU prices. This may happen of course of PC GPU sales are really hit hard and start to dry up. But this is completely normal behaviour, and consoles won't affect GPU launch pricing I wouldn't have thought.

I hope you're right. I just wouldn't be surprised either way, to be honest. Wouldn't be surprised to see a £500 console and wouldn't really be surprised to see a £650 console either.

On top of that, we already know PS5's are going to be scarcer at launch than anticipated, XBOX possible will have the same issue, so that's not going to drive down GPU prices either.

They should drive down GPU pricing... If these consoles do have 2080s performance in a complete box for 500-600 that kind of GPU performance (3060?) Will have to be 300ish, with the 500-600 GPUs crushing the consoles.

Otherwise just buy a ps5 and skip another 1-2 gens of pc hardware until it's actually a good chunk faster than th consoles at a reasonable cost.

We are probably entering another global recession. During the last global recession which was between 2007 to 2010,we had the 8800GT,HD4870,HD5850,GTX460,etc. These were all great value GPUs. Look at Apple, they even have released a new "affordable iPhone",so I think AMD and Nvidia have to wary of trying to push up prices too far,as people might just hold onto what they have that bit longer.
