AMD Polaris architecture – GCN 4.0

It's as if muddying the waters with 'proprietary' makes it less stupid as 'it's the same as G-Sync' lock out.

No amount of attempt of putting words in my mouth is going to change what I said, again, I said FS implementation is AMD proprietary, I said FS panels are open standard, can't you read?

I can read and you said "I'll reiterate-FreeSync panels use open source tech" I was just correcting you what the differences are between open source and open standard.

Maybe quit with the playground snipes and discuss like an adult please?

Not really, I just don't enjoy childish playground talk. You misquoted me, which you apologised for, so this is definitely the last reply to this silly argument and thanks for the apology :)

I prefer thhe manly types that give out the banter, take it back, they don't whine like girls.:p

Your back to school paper will look better than ever with HDR and run by the brighter Polaris GPU and its up to you to write the content so you get an A but presentation will be flawless anyway.

The future is brighter with AMD Polaris

Man this is going to be an expensive year.

First i need to fork out £500 for a VR headset, Then i may need to fork out £500 on a new card + Waterblock.... Unless AMD can sort the issues surrounding Crossfire and VR... Then i may just keep the twin 290x's

Regardless of Greg and Tommy' friendly bickering, AMD have managed to pull a blinder with the whole Freesync naming thing. We have to wonder, will Intel be happy to use adaptive sync when it is more commonly know as an AMD product, certainly NVidia wouldn't be happy with that you would have to think. It is just like the Hoover situation all over again and just think how many years it was before you thought of doing the vacuuming rather than hovering the floor. ( disclaimer some of you are probably not old enough to know what on earth I mean so for that I apologise.)

I think eventually Intel and Nvidia will use the tech, not out of choice but rather because they have no choice if AMD get their way, namely Adaptive Sync over HDMI.
But more importantly scaler manufactures will eventually just be making Adaptive Sync scalers as par for course and phasing out the old scalers that aren't capable of this tech.
Its going to be impossible for screen vendors to ignore, what are they going to do, make screens for Nvidia only? Not a chance.
They will go on making screens for Nvidia at a premium and everyone else at normal pricing, which is what Nvidia will want them to do.
But i doubt once Adaptive Sync is established they will go on paying Nvidia for a tech that costs them nothing extra if they don't make products specifically for them, even without Nvidia's IP charging its not cost effective to have separate production lines for the same products.

Right now screen vendors are hosting a Betamax vs VHS / DVD-HD vs Blueray war, its becoming apparent that Nvidia's solution is Betamax / HD-DVD.

It is a bit bizarre, because in this case AMD have got it perfectly right, naming wise, even though I get the feeling it was more by accident than planed and yet in other ways they completely drop the ball.
Anyway here is hoping that this year will be better for both sides as far as GPU's go, glad to finally be rid of 28nm.

I'm not entirely sure but i think it was actually Anand who coined the phrase "Free-Sync"

AMD just sort of used it and so its an AMD thing now, a surprising strategy for something they say they wanted to be all inclusive, looks more like a cheeky stab at Nvidia. Nvidia and Intel will just coin their own phrase at which point "Free-Sync" no longer makes any sense.
