AMD Polaris architecture – GCN 4.0

Your missing the point again. You seemed to ignore Nvidia not saying anything about the GTX680 for nearly three months after the HD7970 launched and said nothing at all.

So I assume for nearly three months you were saying Nvidia was failing since they were not shouting from the roof about the GTX680.

You seemed to ignore Nvidia said nothing about the GTX1080 prior to launch which by your metrics means it is a fail.

You also seem to be ON PURPOSE ignoring the fact Nvidia has released ZERO information about ANY of their sub £300 cards which by your metrics means Nvidia has failed in the sub £300 market.

So bascially by your warped metrics:
1.)AMD does not release any information about their sub £300 cards= must be a fail
2.)Nvidia does not release any information about their suib £300 cards= no comments from you

I give up

I think you are missing the point. If leaked info is to be believed the 1070 has everything to do with Polaris 10.

If Polaris 10 does offer Fury level performance but is priced at £200-£250 and the 1070 isn't much faster at 980Ti level performance for £300-£350 then AMD could have a winner on their hands. Especially if they still have the DX12 advantage over Nvidia with Polaris vs Pascal.

I just think that if this is the case and AMD want to win market share and these cards release in July, it would be in their best interests to be telling everyone about them!

I give up

Or have you not even thought if AMD were to pull that one off,Nvidia would just drop the price of the GTX1070 to £250 before AMD even has cards available??

It has happened before.

Did you even look at the HD4800 series launch?? Nobody even knew the specs or performance of the cards until they launched and it caused Nvidia to crater price on some of their recently released cards leading to a massive PR victory for ATI.

The same with the R9 290/290X - it did the same for the GTX780 and if it were not for the crap cooler,it would have been a big PR victory for AMD.

Silence does not mean instafail just because of the Fury X and ATI/AMD have 90% of the time have been economical with any information prior to launch.

It is the same kind of comments from people like you for the last 12+ years of GPUs.

If AMD/ATI says nothing beforehand its a fail and that was the same said about the times ATI and AMD released their best cards like the 9700 PRO,HD4870,etc.

Nvidia does exactly the same - we were guessing what the performance and specs of the GK104 even a month before launch.

Nobody had a clue what the GM204 would bring - the GTX970 came out of the blue. Even AMD didn't expect it.

Nvidia was very silent about all of it.

Sadly the Nvida fanboys will never get it and will be perfectly happy with Nvidia raising prices when there is no competition. I'm at that stage that I hope it all comes and bites them in the *****. Lets see prices spiral when AMD finally dies. All I'll do is buy used instead.

And before people say I'm an AMD fanboy, I'd be rooting for Nvidia if they were the underdog right now just so the market has more than one gpu player.

Stop comparing this to other launches as it is irrelevant. They all have different parameters that make comparing them pointless.

I am talking about Polaris and only Polaris ok?

So, we know AMD are looking to release this summer correct, possibly July?

We know all the info about the 1070 already, the price, the specs, the estimated performance and the release date. 10th June for Founders and then custom cards probably by the end of June.

If AMD want to win market share and think for one minute think they have a card that might steal sales form the 1070 then would it not be prudent to release some info now?

All i am saying really is that not saying anything makes me suspect that Polaris truly will be a mid range card and not come even close to the 1070, which would be disappointing.

If they don't give concrete info about performance and pricing at Computex, i can only think AMD must have a massive fail on their hands as i cant think of a good reason why you would not show your hand now, especially if the top Polaris card is ~Fury performance so could be snapping on the heels of the 1070.

If people who are looking to get a 1070 know that Polaris might be nearly as fast but a lot cheaper, better in DX12 and out the following mont etc then it will stop them buying a 1070.

So basically you are calling out AMD since they are not releasing any information early yet when Nvidia in the past, even with the GTX1080,have released ZERO information you have not said anything. Using your own logic since Nvidia has released ZERO information about the GTX1060 it must be a fail.

Yet loads of AMD/ATI launches have had zero information like the HD4870 and 9700 PRO which were all good products, let alone the HD5870 or HD7970.

Stop comparing this to other launches as it is irrelevant. They all have different parameters that make comparing them pointless.

Your the one moaning that no performance figures have been leaked.

So,if that is the case stop bringing up the GTX1070 every ten seconds - they are different markets and using what you just said the launches are different so don't compare them.

So where is the GXT1060 and GTX1050,they seem to be direct competitors and we have zero information - why don't you bring up the silence from Nvidia about those cards?? They are direct competitors to both Polaris 11 and most likely Polaris 10.

That is settled then,right??

I think you have not read any threads in the last 2 days as no one is happy about the price. The card is good but the price is too high.

Some will pay it and some won't. That doesn't mean to say if amd release a mid range competitor for £200 that everyone would rush out and buy one, I know I wouldn't.

If only amd had a 1080 type card ready for £400.

Slightly updated AMD logo and NDA lift date of 29th of June seems to be the only leaks so far.

When I first saw that I though "Ooo! tomorrow" but then I realised it's May :(

I hope AMD release a nice range of cards but for me personally I need something in the 1080's ballpark and Polaris appears to be a long way of which is sad, And worrying. I'm glad I haven't jumped on a Freesync monitor yet.

Obviously don't know how detailed it's gonna be but there is a webcast from computex thats supposed to have polaris updates on the 1st of June. (As well as APU launch "and more")

If they do something similar to the 1080 launch then maybe there will be a paper launch at Computex and the cards/reviews will be available on June 29th.

Another scenario is that they may be talking about more than just Polaris (VEGA?) but I doubt if that is the case since that would mean people can talk about VEGA by end of June.

What are you on about and why are you so angry about this :p!? I am directly talking about Polaris and the fact that Nvidia have now showed their hand so I think it would be a good time for AMD to show theirs. Talking about others not giving out information at random points is irrelevant .

Do you know this? You know the full Polaris 10 card wont be near 1070 performance do you?

If the full Polaris 10 is just 390/290/390/390x then it will be a massive, massive disappointment unless it costs a decent bit less than £200.

Hard to say, its just that previous die shrinks we didnt pay double to gain the double performance as we done atm with the 1080. die shrinks allows a boost at previous tiers but I assume both amd and nvidia both will raise the bar this time.

Polaris seems to be matching previous high end Furyx
Dx12 is a win already as nvidia need massive clock speeds to stay afloat there.

Polaris isn't aimed at the top end. Anyway what do you need a card like the 1080 for? Current gpu not cutting it already?

about the 31th May AMD webcast, i hope they dont put koduri and lisa su on stage again, they are way too awkward to entertain ppl, roy and huddy should do it, or just hire someone specificaly for the occasion.

Wether they show or not, will make no difference though, as Nvidias marketshare, is still going to drop off a cliff, when they come out.

Possible but I'm playing it cool since it just said "update on" :) I would hope for at least a definite product line instead of all this 10, maybe XT, maybe pro rubbish and maybe some basic specs.

Another scenario is that they may be talking about more than just Polaris (VEGA?) but I doubt if that is the case since that would mean people can talk about VEGA by end of June.

I'm guessing the "and more" might be a bit of zen news and maybe some software stuff (dx12/Vulkan/OpenGPU etc) but you never know, maybe some VEGA.
