AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

Was thinking of selling my 780 for the top end AMD card but I think I'll pass now that I've seen the numbers, Not enough of a performance increase to switch, I think I'll wait for Maxwell :)

That new thin layer api sounds interesting, its about time someone stood up to Microsoft and took o Directx which imo has been holding back pc games for years and years.

I think the point is we havent seen any useful figures to make any decisions

Did anywhere record the live stream ? Went to bed at 11pm and as luck would have it the mantle api and bf4 came on right after i went.

Well to me it looks good at last nvidia will have more competition towards the high end and thats only good for us ! ( bad for titan owners though due to high cost )

Actually doing the numbers and giving it some thought using a HD 7970 as a comparison the R9 290X should be looking at a graphics score around 9500 and an overclocked graphics score of 11000.

So yes there is something very odd about the numbers on that graph.

Finally people coming round to what i said earlier last night and had several different people mocking me. :D An overclocked 7950 is not going to beat a 290x. Its pretty obvious can't believe no one could see it. It just doesn't look to be possible from the specs of the two cards card. As Cat may have suggested i think they're being deliberately shy about the performance in order to spring a surprise come review time.

Regardless though makes no difference to me as i won't be upgrading. :D :(

No price for 290x and no specs.
Just a waste of online time for me.

This was not a product launch as far as i know.

Like I said over a week ago the 7990 will be the current best buy whilst sub £500 as faster. ;)

I've been holding off since Monday to order a 7990 and I need a new graphics card for battlefield 4, so what do you reckon go ahead and order it and upgrade in a couple of years.playing at 1920x1080.

A 7950/70/7990 will all be bottlenecked by your cpu.

oooo im getting more excited! either way im going AMD again as pretty much all the games i want to play are with AMD gaming evolved...

so when do we hear more about the R9 290X? next week?

They go on pre-order on the 3rd I think, so that might be the day all the benchmarks and details are published. Hopefully before though.
