AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

Didnt they say last night that the 290x is the fastest gpu out at the moment ?

If so that would make it faster than the 780 and titan.

I'm not sure, i thought they only said "it's OUR fastest card yet"/

regardless i think it'll be quicker than a 780, and on par with a titan, perhaps a little faster when overclocked.. i hope anyway;)

Did anyone actually notice the lack of crossfire-connectors on those cards?

Maybe that sample is made of plastic and it's not the real thing :p

I did. Don't know why AMD did that? Are they trying to say their cards are so powerful you wont need x-fire?

I'm thinking it might be an alternative way to do crossfire without bridges, straight through PCIe 3.0. Thought that would need a new chipset, which would only be supported by AMD processors.

I highly doubt it though. Maybe these sample boards just don't have the connectors at all.

Apparently:

"Notably, the Crossfire connectors are gone. Crossfire will now be handled via PCI Express"

"The new R9 and R7 cards will still use CrossFire for multi-GPU gaming PCs, but the external ribbon connector is no more. All CrossFire communication is now handled strictly over PCI Express."

Although:
"The one odd thing we noticed from this shot is that there is no AMD CrossFire interconnect on this card, but there is a spot there for it. We’ll have to see what is going on there later today."

Lol mat. Still need more info. I was drunk last night and having fun being a pain in the ass last night. You guys are fun:) it's great to have rusty back to pick on:D

If making a fool out of yourself by spamming the same comments over and over again is "picking" on anyone then my name is Matthew and I have a small one. I don't think you've really posted anything else in the last 24 hours have you?

You couldn't pick your own nose. :p

Agreed. Can't see why they would not use that event to show it if the performance was stunning.

I think there will be an increase in performance in 3dmark etc obviously but I think the big shock will come from BF4 running this mantel APi and showing you what can be done without ms directX
Would thus be a game streaming direct to a gpu?
I hope this is open source and Nvidia go this way which could be something happing there as they have something coming up that's not a gpu but gamers will love.

I'm interested as to why the hype train departed and then nothing really that interesting came out. Perhaps performance is not that great? Perhaps they want to build it up more because essentially nothing is being sold today anyway?

I'd like it to match up to a 780/Titan while overclocked but I don't fancy it will. Just under except on games that are biased towards AMD. Happy to be wrong though.
