AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

Probally a lost cause, but anyone found any info on power consumption anywhere for the R9 290X...?

How long is it usually now after stock release, companies like HIS release custom coolers? Hope we see the custom ones in time for Christmas holidays.

I wonder if their will be XT Platinum Edition versions to, considering they going back to old style naming. :p

Shame if pricing is £500+
£400 i would take with a bit of :S,
£450 i would accept if theres enough performance there
£500+ no chance, feels like heavy gouging and joining nvidia in the ridiculous pricing bed

At this rate i might snap up a pair of 7950's of £370 and be laughing

I still think AMD's 290X looks like a beast, if anything about this generation it's price that is disappointing, not performance. For anyone already on a decent modern GPU, prob not worth the price tag, and those that aren't would prob be better buyng into 7XXX / 6XX bargain priced cards.

I think 20nm will be when things get real interesting again, midrange GPU's with crazy horsepower and low power use, high end cards that can truly say they can run 4K. Maxwell is touting 14 - 16GFLOPS of double-precision performance per watt, a massive improvement over current-generation hardware. Whatever AMD have coming is sure to be similar.

Saving my pennies for 20nm..

All 7950 crossfire users are laughing. Some of us are still laughing, long after we first laughed about it. Its like we're on laughing gas, it really is a laugh a minute.

The only 7950 crossfire users not laughing are ones who paid release day prices. One day though even they'll look back and laugh about it, just like us now.

Laugh.

why are people complaining about the price and performance? Have we actually had any proper official benchmarks and details on the price yet? Reading through this...it only seems to be guesses or quotes from random websites.
Isn't it best untill the NDA is lifted and we get all the major site reviews first before we judge.

Of course it is, but it would be boring if everyone did that. Its far easier to talk the product up or bash it based on small crops of non reliable information we read on websites or hear from Gibbo. Amen.

Before every release Gibbo has been spot on with what he's said, he's true to his word. I bet he knows far more about the new cards than any of us here do anyway!

Gibbo also said price could be anywhere from £399 to £499. In other words he's not going to know right up until release date as things are changing constantly.

I'll stick to what he originally said about it being around the same price thanks.

Can't see it being anywhere near £399 considering the price the 7970 launched at.

There has been talk of 250watt, with a BIOS switch to give you an overclocking setup good for 300watts. Power saving is much better, with the presentation claiming "from 1 watt to 300 watts".

Custom cooler will only be on the 280 and down. AMD is sticking to tight control over the coolers on the 290s. I suppose that might change in the future.

I think the R9 290X might be too expensive for me, but I'm hoping the R9 290 will be well priced. In the past that 6950/7950 "second from the top" slot has been a terrific bang for the buck.

The only people more smug than cf 7950 users are those who bought sandybridge cpu's......
