AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

Surely AMD know how much the cards have cost them to produce etc... therefore the only reason they have not released a price is they are waiting to gauge how much they think they can get away with selling them above a normal profit margin ?

It'll be really difficult to not laugh if they are priced that high after all the people rubbing their hands together on a budget lol. It's easy enough to believe as it will still undercut the Titan.

For me the deal breaker is essentially Mantle, and seeing as we won't see any conclusive numbers till December it's difficult to know just how much value you may be getting.

I think anyone buying a new AMD card should not even consider Mantle when making their decision, just buy the card on it's own merits.

Mantle will not be available for at least a couple of months, when it is available it will be for just one game with several more to follow. Where it goes after that, who knows.

The new AMD cards are worth buying in their own right, if Mantle is a big success it will be the icing on the cake.

yeh and unless they come in under 450 i dont see AMD winning many new fans, maybe in 6months time they will look better value with mantle more supported, & the sound more supported.

if they do something lame like price it against the titan then the 780 suddenly looks very good value, and for people on a budget the 7950 is still the best value being 3gb, & crossfire etc. how old is that card zzzz

if you play frostbite games, I would say its a consideration.
the card be good without it no doubt.
still as a Bf4 gamer, its the viable choice no matter what the december update brings us.:)

Agree. The 290X will most probably be a great card regardless of Mantle. But I said for me :D. I doubt the performance will leave the Titans behind enough for me to bother, so the success of Mantle is the only real appeal.

Price is rarely about how much something costs to produce, or even how fast you want to recoup your R&D cost. It's usually about what the market will pay - and there's a bit of a frenzy over these cards at the moment.

I'll certainly be watching the Mantle(piece) as i poke the fire in december.
