A pre-order would be pretty unusual.
It usually never happens (It's usually like how the 280x launched, they just.... Appear)

Hopefully the delay is rumor as-well. Since all we have is rumoured specs, rumoured prices, rumoured benchmarks and rumoured launch dates, its only fair we have a rumoured delay.

Well if that is true, I look forward to seeing how the red teams fans try to spin this as a good thing. 
As I said right back at the beginning AMD should have had an announcement and said here are the cards and they are available right now, at this price and with this performance.
That way there is no way the opposition can spoil your party before the cards are available.

Delaying to see what nVidia do is stupid. Have some balls AMD, put your money where your mouth is and deliver. They are in no position to battle on hardware, they cannot go back to the drawing board now. Which leaves just a price battle, just launch...again - have some balls.
As for the prospect of delaying BF4 so AMD can launch with it....will never buy team red again if they pull that crap.
For a company which talks so much #Bestthingsinceslicedbread @nvidia when it actually comes to manning up and doing their own thing it might appear they want to hide behind cover and play all tactical. For shame.

nvidia won't do anything until AMD release their card, AMD have had this release planned, nvidia haven't said anything about possible new cards so all the pressure is on AMD.
The thing is though there was never a set release date for the 290's so you can't really say it has been delayed anyway...

If it was to delay to see what Nvidia do, it's a strange stance.

IF the rumour comes good, then it might be for nothing but the marketing.
If AMD launches with huge marketing about the performance crown and nVidia launch a day later with a refresh that beats it then it is major egg on AMD's faces.
Again, IF that is the case then it does not bode well as AMD feel threatened by what nVidia might do and their 290X is not as fast as we might have hoped.

I'm hoping too - surely they've trolled us enough for there to be any further delays
I'm just nervous that its something else, I mean how often have there been "pre-orders" of a card ? (what does that suggest to you) - and VERY little said about the 290 at all ...

When the company thinks they will sell more to blind consumers on pre-order than they would with full details and no pre-order.
Which could speak volumes about how concerned AMD might be with the card. I would have thought with BF4 looming and many people looking to upgrade thier GPUs for it (As with BF3) they would want to drum up as MUCH potential business as possible before they lose sales to nVidia.
