AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

I'm not convinced performance is an issue ? I mean come on the 7970 is no slouch - especially with current drivers

the new card - on paper - should be pretty special

Aren't Nvidia rumoured to be announcing something new in Montreal on the 16th/17th? Like a 770ti or Titan Ultra. Sure I read that somewhere.

if Nvidia reveal new GPU's but dont give a price then it makes AMD's delay pointless (thats if they realy are just waiting on Nvidia)

It's complete crap :(

It's hard enough playing the waiting game when you've got the upgrade itch, but with such good deals to be had on things like 7950's in crossfire, and the fact that we don't actually know how the 290/290x performs...makes it all the more difficult to wait.

Maybe it is all a hoax and rather than a new powerful single chip card with a sound chip, it is actually the most pimpiest of pimped awesome soundcards with an added onboard graphic chip. The 8 pin power connectors are just for decoration ;)

AMDs ultimate troll!

I can't see why they'd delay the reviews (if true)

the performance-is the performance - why not allow the reviews to show how fast it is - no matter what Nvidia release - it won't make any difference to the 290x - all they'd have to keep back is the price

UPDATE
Short after posting this story we received more information. According to it the release date is close to the official launch of Battlefield 4. Although I cannot confirm it (just) yet.

Even the die hard red fans must be frustrated at AMD's delay tactics. Those guys who have pre-ordered in anticipation must be pulling their hair out :(

This has got to go down as a poor launch. Can't believe people pre-ordered these cards without solid performance info and pricing. Now the wait just got longer.

The leak from the Turkey press event said that the NDA for the 290X would be lifted on the 15th. Did people just infer from that that the card would also be released then? If so, we'll still get reviews on the 15th.

From TPU:

At a local press gathering in Turkey, AMD revealed the launch date of its next high-end product, the Radeon R9 290X. The press NDA over the card will end on October 15, 2013, at 12:01 AM EST (Berlin time). This NDA expiry time was disclosed in the slides that AMD showed the press. There's always the possibility that the NDA expiry date doesn't match market availability. It could merely mark NDA expiry for the press to post reviews of their AMD reference-design R9 290X (the only kind of R9 290X that will be initially available).
