AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

LOL, looking at the picture of that 290X box, and it suggests that the blower fan design results in lower noise (Not to mention lower temps)

Heaven score is beyond rubbish, windowed mode at that res. Only excuse is if it's an old CPu and even then.. Won't get drawn in by anything until I see 'proper' review. I get a feeling it will be close to GTX 780 but with a better price point.

Looks to be a 4770 at 3.9Ghz stock turbo? So may be a little bit CPU limited at 1080 but I highly doubt it with one card.

Looks like the 290X comes in where it's priced as expected at 780 performance.

Well that was uninspiringly expected lol. Will see how true to life that review is soon enough I suppose.

My CPU was at 4.3 for my heaven score with 780, when I put it back to 4.0 it made a difference of about 300 points so I'm still dubious. Seems odd to blank it out is all I'm saying. Time will tell I suppose.

To put that Heaven score into perspective, I ran a test at the same settings with my GPU clocks fixed at 926Mhz (no boost) and 1502Mhz Memory.

It does seem very low on the 290X, so maybe it is fake. I certainly hope that GPU temp is wrong, 93c is mental.

Edit:

Oh and I was watching a Youtube video at the time (PCper's blog #272), so that would have affected the scores for the worse slightly.

Not sure if there is a mention on what driver is used either. Launch drivers aren't great at the best of times.

Not that I'm trying to make excuses for the card - I'd rather keep the money in the bank :D.

I'm much more inclined to believe it sitting between 780 and titan for sure. If they price it well then it will be a winner. I don't mean £10 less either.

It would be cool if a 780 owner would run Heaven 4.0 at the same settings as that supposed 290X leaked score shows and with the GPU at stock.

People are comparing the R9 290X scores to Geforce Titan and GTX780 scores run on overclocked six core CPUs. The R9 290X appears to have been run on a stock(or very mildly overclocked) Core i7 4770K.

Lets look at some GTX780 scores with a Core i7 4770K and a Core i7 3770K:

The first setup has an overclocked CPU too.

This means the R9 290X is slightly behind or matches a Geforce Titan and beats a GTX780.

It does this being a much smaller GPU.

Far from disappointing.

Price will determine how disappointing it is if this is the performance we can expect.

If the R9 290X is disappointing so is the GTX780 and the Geforce Titan.

That means the R9 290 is likely to be GTX780 level performance and probably cost a bit less too,if the R9 290X is GTX780 level price.

Then,if you add BF4 Mantle support for one of the major PC games launched this year, the GTX780 probably itself needs a price drop.
