Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

I have a GTX660,so again why are you sensitive??

I don't owe any allegiance to a company, really not my thing. Seriously, I'll buy what's the best. I'm afraid to say hardware wars and console wars are something I grew out of years ago.
The fact you have the same brand of card as me means sweet FA.

I don't care if it matches anything for a particular price - I just look to what offers the best performance. Some people are just looking for a 780 performer at a fantastic price. But that won't happen. As I've said a few pages back distributors have a price indication already, and it's well over £500.

its better for multi gpu gaming.
Mantle just adds upon that.
4k eyefinity Bf4, I guess some guys will have a ton of fun with such set up.
(out of my reach tho)

Um...surely you would want a Titan then if you were spending tons of money on a multi monitor 4k gaming behemoth? I would rather have 6gb memory for 4k than 4gb...

Of course it isn't. AMD and Nvidia seem to want to minimise it as much as possible.

If people want to complain about high prices, then blame all of them.

If you want a price war,it takes two to tango.

It seems the best time to buy AMD and Nvidia cards is as the back end of a generation like ATM with all the cheap GTX670,HD7950 and HD7970 cards.

Well that's the case for almost everything though isn't it. Once something new is on the horizon price on the current line tends to drop.

It simply comes down to whether you want the performance now or you can wait. Personally I don't want to wait 2 years to buy a card good enough to play a game maxed out, as by then I'll have little interest. On the other hand I'd rather not pay £500 for it, but these days you have little choice other than cheap multi GPU solutions which I've never liked.

Yep, Titan because 4GB isn't enough for 4K gaming!

@ 5760x1080 I used 4.6GB VRAM with all settings maxed in Crysis 3. No way 4GB will be enough to cope at 4K and by the time 4K becomes an industry standard, we will be 2 generations ahead.

Keep it civil guys.

I see it as:

1. Late to the party. Nvidia had the Titan out over 8 months ago but priced very high. The 780 is still too high but performs a fraction behind a Titan with custom cards being faster than a stock Titan at a fraction of the cost.
2. AMD are releasing a card that seems to be slower than a Titan/780 in the bench threads (and by some distance) just far too late. They needed to be BEATING a Titan/780 after this time length.
3. Prices are hinted to be the same as a 780, so for Nvidia, they have had 3 months of sales and 780 owners have had 3 months of use with only a dual card to beat it. Why would you sell a 780 to buy a 290X? For hardcore, must have the fastest, if it was quicker all round, they would be selling up (possibly) to jump on the 290X wagon. That makes no sense for people to do that now.
4. Launch date has been a hash. Defend it how you like but the tech sites all cited that the NDA would be lifted on the 15th. AMD never once corrected any of the tech sites (which they should have). The 480 was a disaster as well and that didn't bode well for Nvidia.
5. Mantle is all talk at present with only Dice signing up to it. We have seen no evidence of performance gains and it could be as low as 1% for all we know.

I was hoping this card would smash a Titan and I still hope those leaked slides are wrong and shopped but it isn't looking that promising :(

It seems from what a reviewer on Bit tech mentioned that the 15th was the original NDA date for the rebranded cards (270X, 280X etc) and they actually (for once) got released earlier than expected, so the NDA was changed to the 8th. It seems the 15th never had anything to do with the 290 series.

I'm sure we shall hear something before the month is out.

People are comparing the R9 290X scores to Geforce Titan and GTX780 scores run on overclocked six core CPUs. The R9 290X appears to have been run on a stock(or very mildly overclocked) Core i7 4770K.

Lets look at some GTX780 scores with a Core i7 4770K and a Core i7 3770K:

http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/56733-gigabyte-geforce-gtx-780-windforce-3x/?page=3

The first setup has an overclocked CPU too.

This means the R9 290X is slightly behind or matches a Geforce Titan and beats a GTX780.

It does this being a much smaller GPU.

Far from disappointing.

I also think that people are expecting 780 beating performance for a fraction of the price. Then when it's priced in accordance there will be a massive outcry from everyone that got priced out of it. Just the way it is.

Its done on purpose.

We saw it during the HD7970 launch.

The attitude was funnily different with the GTX780 launch.

Only Nvidia is allowed to charge premiums, even if their cards are slower,or even made on older process tech.

Sorry what is? Not following you. Ah ok, I've not really been following PC tech, I've just come to conclude that I need £500 min for a great card although 250-300 used to be my limit, then again I was gaming at 1080p back then.
