AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

Ha, thanks bud, I don't think LtMatt has watched them tbh, he's quoted the same videos 4 times.

Maybe he's worried I might mention AMD, a bit touchy perhaps? :D

Watch the latest one LtMatt, it might even raise a smile :p

I watched a couple of them Broom. ;)

I used your posts as quotes so you must have posted the same vid or vids four times.

I'm eagerly awaiting your next one. :p

Relax ladies. In case you missed my earlier post.

I expect full voltage control will be available when Unwinder updates afterburner for the 290X. Should be very soon id imagine as MSI will want it working on release day.

The problem is the 290X has a different voltage regulator from the 7970 so until the software is updated it shall remain locked, or semi locked, i think.

290X cards won't be voltage locked, at least not initially. Once AIB's can create their own designs and modify the pcb expect the usual suspects (XFX, Gigabyte) to release voltage locked versions at a cheaper price. Proobably tinker with the pcb parts and memory (Elpida, if not using it already) to reduce price further.

Bios can be flashed back and the AB hack is purely software based. The bios just removes the boost aspect for locking your clock speed in. :)

You still have the risk of bricking a card though and if anything bad happens warranty potentially gone. Not everyone will have the confidence to bios flash and take a risk like that with a £800-£1k gpu.

A very, very, small part of the market. It's like selling million pound plus hypercars - it looks good on the benchmarks and gets a lot of publicity, but they only sell a few handfuls.

I'm pretty sure Gibbo hasn't sold (let alone ordered) 10,000 Titans for his first order, like he has with R9-920.

Would be interesting to know. Not sure he'd say publically anyway. I've never seen him say a particular card/brand is not selling well.

Using that many GPUs, the result comes down to who can overclock their CPU the highest.

Don't forget 8 Pack scores almost that much in Vantage using a couple of GTX 780s.

No what we need is to use games and benches with uber settings to take the CPU out of the equation, like Heaven 4 at 1440p or 1600p. I could do with a good HD 7950 CF score on there, hint hint.:D

Still world records broken apparently. :)

I was reading a review site, can't remember which one. Heaven 4 seems to slightly favour Nvidia cards, something to do with the tessellation.

I will post a Heaven bench don't worry. I'll have another go. At the very least ill run a light overclock just to complete it. I just get annoyed with it because i always seem to crash on the last part. Happened so many times last few times i tried. Gets annoying after a while.

Linus's review is good, both cards fully overclocked. The 780 taking the lead, the Kepler architecture just allows for more overclocking, it's that point of diminishing returns. The 290X comes higher clocked at stock, so can't overclock as much as the 780, so although out of the box the 290X looks faster, when it comes to overclocking it isn't.

This is like a reveres of the 7970 / GTX 680 situation. Nvidia need to drop the price of the 780 to £400, then the 780 is the better buy.

Are you sure they were overclocked? If thats the case it normally says in the description and has a link to the card overclocks used. I see no mention of that in this review/ Also Linus is all at 1080p with unplayable fps. Its actually probably the least useful review ive seen. It pains me to say that as i like linus reviews for overclocking. But recently all they do is 1080 at unplayable or near unplayable fps.

If anything Heaven 4 is better for AMD cards, a HD 7970 is better than a GTX 680 and a HD 7990 is better than a GTX 690. The bench tests raw GPU grunt which the Tahiti cards have more of compared to GK104 cards.

Yes i was talking about 780/Titan/290/290X. That's what's been said. We'll see if its true when the benchmarks start coming in i guess. As for raw gpu grunt 4k dictates that the best i think and the 290X pulls clear of everything at that res.

I would say the Titan has the upper hand in this review @4k

I also think that any 4k review using a single card is a waste of time as you have to turn the settings down.

Mmm looks like a tie in that one kaap. Maybe the titan takes it via 1-2fps. Check out anands review. They bench loads of games at 4k. 290X definitely faster overall @ 4k. In some games quite a bit.

Lol Broom. Have you tried playing those games with those settings and fps? There's also no where saying what overclocks they ran. In this instance ill go with all the other review sites over this cherry picked one, no offence.
