Indeed, if the Steam surveys are able to dial down to specific graphics cards, I think it'll show a lot of regular people probably have Intel 4000 onboard graphics!

I doubt a high percentage have 780 or Titans.

Everyone in this forum is in a bit of a bubble, but enthusiasts don't really represent the average user.

Edit - As of September 2013, 0.41% of steam users have Nvidia GTX 780 GPU's.

Highest percentage of DX11 GPU owners (5%) have an Intel 4000.....

That's in quiet mode, which locks the card at 45 percent fan speed or less. Uber mode unlocks the fan at up to 55 percent, and you can use CCC to unlock the fan at up to 100 percent. The card may not use all that fan speed, but you can make it available if the card needs it.

I think temps (and noise) would be very different with the 100 percent fan curve available for cooling.

These scores are dependant on the CPU overclock

Running that bench 4 Titans bottleneck very badly.

Lets see how a single R9 290X goes on LN2.

I would also like to see some 290Xs on the Heaven 4 bench, more so using Hi Rez settings (1440p or 1600p) as this really tests for GPU grunt.

I've been looking forward to this launch, despite knowing that I wasn't going to buy one until the non ref ones are out. The wait is back on!

In other news, I expected it to beat a 780, but it almost consistently beats a Titan. Talk about price for performance. It'll be interesting to see what we can get out of them with better cooling.

Yes but it's all relative isn't it? In a horizontal comparison such as this. I'm not sure what your point is in truth. You sound like you're disagreeing with something I've said but then you're talking about something else.

Oh and Gibbo hasn't said he's sold 10000 290/290X. He may have ordered that many but that's different to selling.

Titan sold out early on but of course by definition it was never going to be a volume part nor was it intended to.

Using that many GPUs, the result comes down to who can overclock their CPU the highest.

Don't forget 8 Pack scores almost that much in Vantage using a couple of GTX 780s.

No what we need is to use games and benches with uber settings to take the CPU out of the equation, like Heaven 4 at 1440p or 1600p. I could do with a good HD 7950 CF score on there, hint hint.

So basically looks like R290 slots inbetween nvidia's two current top cards, while being the cheapest option of all three.

But seriously though, give over with the fanboy stuff. It's just going to cause arguments. The price of this card is great but it reflects the length of time the 780 and Titan have already been on the market.

Oh and my 780 was only £40 more than a 290X, I've had it in service for months and when it's overclocked it's going to be identical ish performance to a similarly air OC'd 290X unless the temperature of them doesn't increase when overclocking .

So no it didn't really invalidate my purchase and nVidia are able to react on pricing if they feel threatened. They have more flexibility on price as well than AMD at the moment by virtue of having been on the market for considerably longer.

We see and I view practical differences here that in a 1920x1080 or even a 2560x setup you be hard pressed doing a double blind study to notice any difference in between different cards and brands. a few fps here and there wont matter much in my book as you just wont notice difference.

so the 290 pro version will be bang of the buck for me.

Nvidia will have to lower prices or they get slaughtered.

The 290X is a great GPU but it does sacrifice heat / temps / noise to get their. That can't just be ignored. Anyone who got a 780 at sub £500 needn't feel to bad either, all that performance for months ahead of AMD's cards and the 780 can be clocked to match the 290X when overclocked. When both cards are clocked to their max, performance difference is negligible.

The best thing about this is with AMD trading punches with the high end, prices on Nvidia's side will have to be adjusted. This is what we want, competition.

I've just purchased one to compare directly against the Titan so will post some findings up myself. Looking forward to playing with one

I will say that with the performance the 290X appears to be offering it does put the Titan in a bad light on paper. But when you understand just what a monster the gK110 is to manufacture you respect it more.

I couldn't justify having 3 simply because of the 780Ti being so close round the corner, but curiosity got the better of me. One will do just fine .

As Boomstick has pointed out there are other factors to consider. For one, I don't think the 290X is a viable option in small form factors given the operating temps. I'll be sure to give a fair comparison anyway.

I was reading a review site, can't remember which one. Heaven 4 seems to slightly favour Nvidia cards, something to do with the tessellation.

I will post a Heaven bench don't worry. I'll have another go. At the very least ill run a light overclock just to complete it. I just get annoyed with it because i always seem to crash on the last part. Happened so many times last few times i tried. Gets annoying after a while.

Nothing else make sense for me
Titan isnt a bad card and those buying it could afford it and was happy doing so.
Nvidia set a premium for the high end which now is revoked.
wont mean people stop buying Titans just beacuse a new card enters that is priced better and faster in 4k gaming by 20% its how the world works, some just buy things no matter what on perception alone.

Mantle yea, december will be interesting.
