AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

Haha what else would i call people with a Nvidia card? Not saying they are the only people with doubts though. But i can understand them trying to write it off, id probably do the same if the gpu was on the other pci-e slot, so to speak. ;)

Rusty does have a point. The other Chinese bench results were dubious and yourself and Humbug dismissed them but nobody called you or him a fanboy because you have AMD GPU's in your machines.

It's too close to call but smaller die at those temperatures are even more likely to suffer failure. There is no doubt that the card will remain to function at 95C but the principle of target temperatures is a fairly loose one. In Crossfire configuration, you will definitely be seeing during the warmer months these cards hitting the 100C barrier I'd imagine.

All will become apparent once there are some proper tests run.

AMD's reference cards actually work very well in crossfire because of the blower design. I don't anticipate too much of a problem here, within reasonable clock speeds and voltage settings.

Saying someone uses a Nvidia card makes them a fanboy? :D

Agreed and if I was working for AMD, I wouldn't mind having a fiddle prior to letting people in to see what can be done and refusing to allow then to see what is what.

Greg as a rep:"hey, come look at these bench results"
Reviewer: "wow that is awesome and clearly beats the other card it is going against can we see the settings and GPU-Z verification on both systems please?"
Greg as a rep: "nope!"
Reviewer: "Can I look under the table with the cloth that goes all the way to the floor?"
Greg as a rep: "Nope!"
Reviewer: "I notice you are using a stock cooler and different ram on the Nvidia's 3960X CPU and MSI board, care to explain"
Greg as a rep: "Nope! now take this envelope and I look forward to your 'favorable' review"
Reviewer: "Sure thing and I look forward to the next time we meet"

Probably nothing like that at all and I just made myself look daft :D

Don't forget the free trip to Hawaii.:D

Please be female. :p

If you factor in my strong language and my passion for electronics i dont think you are going to like those odds.. unless you want me to be russian.

I'd be concerned, as a retailer, about the longevity of these cards at those temps tbh.

9800X2 anyone?

I wouldn't, as I said previously my Sapphire 6800 has been going strong for 3 years on a reference design and I believe from memory (I don't use GPU-Z) that the temps for that regularly hit 90C.

I have a friend who is a bit of a big shot who I play golf with (He started up Mitie Engineering) and he takes his potential clients out for the most expensive meals/drinks and proper looks after them. He tells me most of his business is won this way.

Fair play and makes perfect sense to me. Look after the reviewer and get favorable reviews.

Wasn't insinuating the cards would fail, but they will obviously run hotter in 3 or 4 way configuration. It can't really be avoided! Ventilation will be key

True dat Forsty. :)

Nice to see my pics getting spread around, now I just want someone to send tweet this http://captiongenerator.com/8382/Hit...290X-GPU-leaks to Roy Taylor (:

Haha do it. Roy has a good sense of humour in this regard as he gets abuse from Nvidia twitter users from time to time when he has a little poke at Nvidia.

Don't be pedantic Hunny, you know what I meant :p

Its ok Gramps, ill let you off. You must be going senile in your old age. :p
