AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

I think us 120Hz users would disagree with that. Ever since I brought this stupid monitor I being trying to keep up with the latest and greatest.

Just got a 780 and I think I'll be buying another just to get BF4 to run @ 120FPS constant.

dont need 120fps to+ utilize the benefit of a 120hz screen.
and yes you need 2x cards for those 120fps minimum numbers.
However I would sell the 780 and just get 2x290x

and nvidia feels the pressure of 290 series,

Hmm the hotel room at montreal is the only showing the 290x has had isn't it?

that link above says a 4770k @4.6 and yet on the 780 system it was a piddly little heat sink and fan.

Some thing really doesn't add up.

Indeed. 4.6ghz i7 Haswell with a stock heatsink? Surely it was melting!

Feeling the pressure?

If you mean "AMD have finally matched the performance of that graphics card we brought out back in February that we sold for silly money with everyone lapping it up. Probably time to release the fully unlocked version of that card to take back the performance crown..."

Hardly seems like pressure to me. Titan will have been out for 9 months by the time this things is out.

Ok, from what I have read so far I think I am better off waiting for the custom air cooled 290x as they should be able to clock more and ( 2 months time ) also have the new amd game bundle.

6 months for 1 minimum fps gain over titan.
TBH if i was a person that invested 850 pounds in Titan i still would be happy. After 7 months i still would have awesome card that does not do 93c :P

8-9 months by the time the 290x is released. Also it's a little more than 1 fps but still nothing to shout about. Round here though price is the only thing what matters. The TITAN could have came out 3 years ago with that performance and people would still say it failed because of pricing.

But there's no going around about the asking price of the GTX780...for their performance and what they are asking for, it should really had been launched as the same gen/time as the GTX670/GTX680- £600~ for 30-40% extra performance over GTX680 at 50% higher price :p

Well you could say the 290x should have been launched the same time as the 780, missed opportunity for AMD, they could have blown 780 sales away for 3-4 months, instead they come in now at what looks to be a similar price point/performance :o

Been without internet for a couple of days - do we know any particular reason why the benchmarks are versus a 780 rather than Titan?

Probably (hopefully) because the 290x will be in the same price bracket or slightly under than a 780 and it looks better if it measures up to something like that, than break even or fall under a titan which is in a whole other price bracket. All this is speculation of course.
