Its a the point now where I see his handle and don't even bother reading. It probs makes sense in parts but just because you repeat something dosnt make it true.

I agree with a vast majority of what he says and he seems a very well informed individual

So which one is it ?

Why don't you attack the points he made ? instead of complaining that he uses lots of words! :p

I think you missed the part where Nvidia have 300 devs that work closely with the game devs and this is how we see the effects brought into the game. Hopefully not all 300 at once :D

That's great, so instead of 50 pc-games having all the goodies, we might see 100, kudos to nVidia. But seeing as over 200 million consoles + were sold in the last gen, those devs might have to work serious overtime to get the nVidia goodies into all the AAA games coming to PC.

The AAA titles are pretty few and far between but both AMD and Nvidia work closely with the devs to optimze the game for the specific hardware. For me, TressFX was stunning and not often I play through games more than once but so far have almost completed that 3 times. Deffo hats off to AMD on that one. It is a shame we have proprietary software but sadly nothing we can do about it and just have to deal with it. It would be better for the gamer if AMD and Nvidia shook hands and worked together but that looks like never going to happen.

Edit:

As for the consoles, It is evident that the Xbone will not be using Mantle (officialy stated) and quite possibly neither will Sony (nothing stated though that I know of). The PC will benefit from Mantle but so far, only Dice have signed up for it. That is not me putting Mantle down at all and can see the benefit of this low level API. The trouble is, Carmack and co said today that working with DX as it was open is the easier and best way to develop, which isn;t what I wanted to hear.

Aye, if they actually co-operated us consumers would actually benefit for once. But they won't so we suffer.

Mantle will likely be tweaked and adapted as AMD works hand in hand with the console guys though. So even though it's not being used on the consoles, the work made with the console guys will benefit the AMD users on pc.

Where've you made that assumption?

Mantle is designed for PC, AMD will use it for PC titles. Consoles have their own API. Is that so hard to understand?

You're completely ignoring my point, that the AMD guys will take the work used on consoles and implement aspects of it in the PC api to improve things on pc. But hey if nVidia were doing this, you'd no doubt be waxing lyrical about how the work will enhance PC gaming for nVidia users to the nth degree.

This is why I said nice speculation.

Mantle could well be a different API to the ones used in the consoles so you can't just pull stuff across and hope it works. That's why we have bad PC ports.

You're forgetting consoles get outdated rather quickly and actually hold PC games back if anything.

I honestly couldn't give a hoot if nvidia were in the new consoles. All of their focus is PC and mobile gaming and that's what matters to me.

The console market still drives gaming, so it doesn't matter how much it holds back gaming, as long as the main players go console first, pc gamers will suffer.

We have bad pc ports because the last gen was a mish-mash of technologies over 3 competing platforms. With their being a single supplier for all the big players now, we might start to see some decent results. Mantle is just an extension of that.

In short, Mantle is a new and better way to bring the code developers are already writing for next-generation consoles to life on the PC. It achieves this by being similar to, and often compatible with, the code they are already writing for those platforms. The ultimate goal of Mantle is to give gamers the ultimate performance in compatible games, and doing that in such a way that developers are free to put forth whatever effort is required to ensure optimal performance for competing platforms.

Says it all really.

It doesn't say anything it's some copied and pasted text about the goal of mantle. I'll make my decision on it when it's released. Consoles don't drive PC gaming as I said they've severely held them back and will continue to do so because of their hardware limitations. No amount of software is going to fix that a couple of years down the line.

I didn't say PC gaming, I said gaming, PC Gaming doesn't even compare to the numbers the consoles pull and until that changes we'll always suffer.

As for it being the goal, so? It means they're actively looking to make things better for us PC users in what is a console-dominated market, it's not a stretch to make the speculation I did.

To be fair Suarez, the consoles drive gaming in general in that its where all the money is and should the choice be forced the bigger studios would drop PC gaming like a rock

I know it's not a stretch. I said nice speculation and you got defensive about it straight away trying to label me a nvidia fanboy.

Both companies are actively looking to make PC gaming better it's just a shame you need a card from both sides to get all the benefits.

Gaming as a whole maybe yes. They've still held PC's back though, hopefully steam OS solves some of the problem.

Let's hope so but from what we have seen this last gen I can see it being an afterthought from the main deva. It'll be consoles,PC then if they have time, steam is. Totally agree though they have held it back since the consoles came out. Imagine how advanced it would be if PC was the lead platform? Dosnt bare thinking about does it
