AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

Pretty sorry state of affairs reading back the last 2 pages. We are all performance enthusiasts, yet someone posts up the first pic of a 290 with water block and it just goes by almost unnoticed as the bickering from the usual suspects continues.

If true crap, my guess was wrong.

I signed up for the AMD newsletter and that's the e-mail I got. Will try and get a screenshot, give me 2 minutes.

Battlefield 4™ coming soon
Featured on stage at AMD’s GPU14 event in Hawaii, Battlefield 4™ is one of the first games to support Mantle (read all about that here) and is built on the Frostbite™ 3 engine which delivers the highest standard of immersion in entertainment with an unmatched level of visual and audio fidelity, superior character animations, and dynamic environments. You’ll be able to experience the full game for yourself when it releases October 29th.

Only in Battlefield can you demolish the buildings shielding your enemy. Only in Battlefield will you lead an assault from the back of a gun boat. Battlefield grants you the freedom to do more and be more while playing to your strengths and carving your own path to victory.

In addition to its hallmark multiplayer, Battlefield 4 features an intense, dramatic character-driven campaign that starts with the evacuation of American VIPs from Shanghai and follows your squad's struggle to find its way home.

There is no comparison. Immerse yourself in the glorious chaos of all-out war, found only in Battlefield

The 290X is launching with BF4, isn't it?

Any idea on the prices a few weeks after the release buying frenzy?

I am going to sell my 690 and buy a 290x if it pans out as good as the hype.

To kill something it must not survive "the hit".

The hardware is nothing Nvidia can do anything about - beyond some tweaked BIOS, but they can lower the price.

So I guess it comes down to if they can lower it enough to be the same/lower than that of the 290X then it might survive. If they cannot (e.g. they make a loss on each one because of lots of expensive ram and low chip yields) then its dead. And it will probably be too close to the ti then so its dead again.

The 780ti might do this as well as the 290x.

The full-speed FP processors in the titan are what make/let it be expensive and thats on the hardware side - the cost reduced 780 chips will be much easier/cheaper to make (they are probably failed GK110 chips with more links burnt out to standardise the number of stream processors and reduce performance more in FP). The ti is probaby just not as disabled as the non-ti.

AMD didnt say killer but they can hope - but knowing that there will be a replacement sometime, perhaps the ti, perhaps not until maxwell.

I have to say this NDA lark is getting quite silly now... Just release the card already open the gates, what ever the green team have is a done deal as well. Lets get cards on the table and money in the tills FFS

Your a horrible man Gregster:mad: :D

I took what Gibbo said yesterday and dissected it with a fine tooth comb till only letters and numbers were left. Thos letters and numbers were a hidden message stating the 28th of October. It is simple deduction :p

He's being playing too, come launch day, which is not long now, but I'm not confirming whether it's hours, days or a week. But we will have an excellent review showing these bad boys off when NDA lifts which there is an NDA on. ;)

Then look at the first and last numbers of his quoted post QUOTE=Gibbo;25155858

How everyone missed this is beyond me....

Why on earth are they keeping reviews/release date/price secret at this point? Why not release all info so we know what to do. All this secrecy is beyond stupid.

It's ridiculous, not AMD but peoples reactions. The cards are ready when they are ready, they get to shops when they get to shops. Just because a delivery made it to OCUK apparently(which could have been today) that doesn't mean they've arrived in Aus, or Belgium or anywhere else.

Don't forget that if they "released" it two weeks ago and it wasn't available till lets say the 25th, then you would all slaughter them for "paper launching" a product. If you wait and keep it relatively secret, you get slaughtered.

All the hype, all the over the top nonsense, all the missed dates is all the doing of people who have no patience. If AMD released 2 weeks ago, the leaks about an upcoming release would have gotten out 2 weeks earlier and you'd be saying exactly the same things, but 2 weeks ago.

If AMD launch today and it's not available till next week, not only will loads of people be for some reason angry because they aren't ready immediately, Nvidia will also drop the price of cards already on shelves to try and make it look like the AMD cards are more expensive by comparison.

My take is, I know a card is coming, I know what the card is, the features it brings and have a lets say 90% accurate indication of where it will perform, I don't know it's price, but can guess within £100. I actually prefer it when companies give you loads of information early(amd and Intel on cpu architecture for instance of upcoming cpu's) but I know for a fact this forum would whinge on for hours about paper launches if AMD did this for a GPU.
