AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

True gaming is with headset anyways, so you don't hear the noise. ;)

Yea I use 80% fan with my reference, no issue when gaming with headphones even open ones as I use sennheiser hd600

I haven't had a stock cooler for years luckily. It's a genuine shame for me because I cannot wait months for non ref and if they were nice and quiet from the off I would snap one up today. Dear god, moomoo is right you know, I do game with my active noise cancelling headset quite often.. Uh oh, what to do.
Then I saw Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 WindForce 3x is on offer today, but according to hexus the 290x is quieter!

I listen to the 290x fan on utube, and its better than the 7970 reference one. I wouldnt call it silent at higher settings tho;)

about Titan..ics

I would say the Titan has the upper hand in this review @4k

I also think that any 4k review using a single card is a waste of time as you have to turn the settings down.

Mmm looks like a tie in that one kaap. Maybe the titan takes it via 1-2fps. Check out anands review. They bench loads of games at 4k. 290X definitely faster overall @ 4k. In some games quite a bit.

I think you'd be mad to argue the Titan's corner in a buyers market. If you own one already mind you, I know which cards I'd rather have. (Given the info, might change my mind tomorrow ;))

Find that hard to believe - my WindForce 3x is deadly quiet.

Why is 4K being mentioned so much in here and in reviews? 99% of us don't have 4K monitors.

Because that's the strongest point of the card, if it was just comparing the common resolutions then it wouldn't be so much to shout about,. Got to play to the strengths and all.

I'd send AMD a strongly worded note about it as they seem to think it's all go-go-go 4K now.
I don't think these 4K reviews are all bad. At least it gave us an idea that by the time we hit next gen 20nm cards, a pair of 2nd tier high-end CF/SLI would able be good enough for pushing 60fps...though 4K monitors would still cost arms and legs...

Are you sure they were overclocked? If thats the case it normally says in the description and has a link to the card overclocks used. I see no mention of that in this review/ Also Linus is all at 1080p with unplayable fps. Its actually probably the least useful review ive seen. It pains me to say that as i like linus reviews for overclocking. But recently all they do is 1080 at unplayable or near unplayable fps.

Lol, what video did you watch?

Yeah they say both cards are max overclock, they also include 1440P results where the 290X is only -5% slower than the 780 rather than -10% at 1080P.

So in terms of installing this in my PC

Install newest drivers, take out AMD 6870 and install r9 290x

Or

Uninstall all drivers, take out AMD 6870 and install r9 290x then re-install latest drivers?
