AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

I think some people are just a little upset that they spent $1000 on a GPU only to find that they may have been a little silly.

How so? They've had that performance for 7 months, am I silly for paying more for a TV a year back that can be had for half price now?

I am planning on buying a 770 and there is already a competing ATI product so even if just a slight rebrand the new ATI card will outpace a 770.
To be honest, I really don't see the point of getting the 770 at those asking price when the 7970 Matrix Platinum is only £270-£280, and the 7970 on average being just £230-£250.

Noticed some of the chat on that webcast thing, people are saying that Nvidia will still be better because of 'Titan' and 'Titan Ultra', don't they realize that cost is also a factor? When priced twice the cost of a normal GPU it becomes irrelevant?

Jeezus I do worry about people's thinking capacity sometimes :p.

If 290X can come close to Titan but costs half the money than AMD did alright, if it beats the Titan and costs less or similar to GTX 780 than what more can we ask of AMD?

I think people expect to much at launch lol.

Have to disagree somewhat there - for some people its about having the best regardless of price and tbh a true enthusiast for high end GPUs isn't going to be considering price too much either (unless it comes down to the wire).

(This is one of the reasons whether perception or truth that nVidia has continued to sell fairly well even when in theory they shouldn't be).

I think Titan Ultra (if it exists) will be less impressive than Titan relatively speaking but cost more.

It's all relative in the end, people were happy paying out for Titan based on how it fared compared to other cards available at the time.

You pay a premium for extra performance with most things if you want it early, I don't see why people cant grasp that, plus I believe Titan has made things progress a little faster, maybe without Titan AMD wouldn't have felt the need to aim for that level of performance.

Nvidia have a full fat GK110 to bring to the table.

But there is only 7% more on it from the Titan, 2688 vs 2880 CUDA cores.

clock for clock that would translate to 3 or 4% in performance

Really looking forward to what they reveal.. But deep down I dont think i'll be upgrading this year.

Next year will probably be the better time with 20nm cpu and gpu coming out??

Think two 7950's and i7 2600k should do very well for sometime. But if I really need to I will upgrade :D

AMD Radeon R9 290X Pictured Again (Final Design)

While the specs have not been confirmed yet, we have a new pictures of the final Radeon R9 290X design. Just as I thought that design you’ve seen few days ago was not final! In fact R9 290X looks just like Curacao sample!

According to the source, AMD has not yet confirmed the specs. Instead they have shown the sample to the public during a small briefing aboard USS Missouri.

The R9 290X has four display outputs, including two DVI-D, HDMI and DisplayPport. It will requires 6-pin and 8-pin power connectors to consume up to 240W (we actually think it’s 250-260W). This sample is so fresh that AMD even forgot to add a proper Crossfire connectors, or maybe this is how they look? Maybe the first sample we’ve seen was alpha and this just beta?

The site is also claiming that R9 290X is faster than GTX 780, while not as fast as TITAN, but that may depend on the settings you choose with the BIOS switch, which is a new standard for reference flagship models from AMD.

More information will be posted later, right after AMD makes this card official.

I was going to go green for my next upgrade but would it make sense that since the new consoles are both AMD it would be wiser to stick with AMD again?
