AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

My fans haven't arrived yet, and DPD haven't given a delivery time which is very unlike them.

I was playing Crysis 2 at 1440p, DX11 Ultra mode with Afterburner running and GPU 2 was throttling down to 750Mhz.

That's pretty bad. GPU 1 rock solid still.

I might reduce the mV power as was suggested.

I assume you have the radiator placed as per instruction (basically the A5 page with the big STOP & WARNING signs).

The rad has to be above the card with the pipes down...... Any other position isn't going to work.

Are they the right way around in this pic of the ocuk Vesuvius system?

Cannot see from the images where is placed on the right hand side.
However this is the correct way......

** No holinking images, thank you **

That is me temporary until I go under water, yeah left sided case :(
(still waiting since Friday the parts to make the casing for the rad, come on OCUK 4 days to send the order...)

this is Loxa, but need the pipes to the bottom he has them at the top, however is perfectly positioned above the card.

Just finished my build with the 295x2 and its the same set up as Blitz. (Just need to find some good games to play now any suggestions?)

Just ordered 6 parahna fans which should hopefully keep everythign even cooler.

3 for the front of the case (Corsair 540)
2 for the H100i water cooler
1 for the radiator on the R9 295x2.

Will get some pics up once its all done.

P.s the images on the 4k monitor look spot on

If it's throttling heavily out of the box then in my opinion you should return it.

Yeah, half tempted to.

Today I have:

Installed a 140mm Akasa Viper at the front of the case (intake)
Installed a 120mm Akasa Piranha on to the 295x2 radiator. (exhaust)

Connected the Piranha fan to the motherboard.

Set the intake and Piranha to 100% speed (loud!)

Taken the mV voltage down by -50 and increased the power limit to +50

I ran Heaven and my score was better, it didn't throttle but GPU2 is still pretty close to the maximum temperature (73C)

Which 4K monitor you got?

As for games,
Tetris, Minecraft, Xcom UFO Defence...............

hahahahahah..

Crysis 3 (just buying it), Tomb Raider, BF4 (i do not have it but everyone says is good), even Rome 2. I enjoy most the later, because is not a slideshow on the battles any more. :D
After that, if you have access try the Arena Commander (Star Citizen).

My GPU is also throttling. At first I thought it was due to the location, but now it's mounted at the back (pipes down) and on Heaven it's still just about reaching 75. It's better now, but it still gets there.

Went for the samsung u28d 4k monitor.

Bet Tetris in 4k would be amazing ;)

I got the amd gold award with the card and have chosen star citizen as one of the games (got the rift dev kit 2 so should be good). Also went for aliens isolate and hitman.

Gonna try Titan fall to as looked good on the xbox one advert.

I was playing Tomb Raider at 1080p with everything maxed out (incl 120hz limit). The card is working both cores at 100% however the temps are 64 and 58 respectively during the duration of the session.

Open the side of your case and see if it is the case air flow and ambient temp.

Yeah I got Alien, Just Cause 2, and Star Citizen. However it seems that the SC code, is only one for one of the 5 modules.
And to be precise is for the Arena Commander module only.
Not the Squadron 42 (main game), nor the MMO, Planetside or the FPS game.

I am tempted to buy the U28D also, however the AOC U3477Pqu looks nice also, even if bigger and with less pixel coun. Idk when time comes (October) I will make my decision :)

Shouldn't have to mess with voltages, if its not doing what its meant to send the bugger back. That seemed to be the accepted thing to do with the 7990 messing with bios and voltages instead of sending it back, damn things rarely ever worked how they were portrayed in reviews.

Recently changed my pipes to the suggested down approach and believe it or not it raised the temps by 2-3c.

I must admit so far I am not impressed.

Yes, I may do this.

I would imagine Overclockers test cards out in caseless setups to make it easier though? Isn't this a bit unfair in terms of it being a heat issue? I'm sure mine would run alright if it was case-less.

I opened the side of my case and using Heaven it rises to 73 degrees. Still seems hot right? That said, I do have an R9 290x running below it. It's a good distance below it though, nowhere near touching.

If you are not using 2 fans make sure you use 2. Pipes at the bottom and you want probably exhausts at the top of the case. You'll be needing a cool air intake on the side seeing as you have a 290X in there too. Which res are you using? because 4k runs about 10c higher than a 1080p load in similar games for me. Still able to cane it for hours and not throttle though. Ran a couple of hours of need for speed: the run and crysis 3 earlier at 1100/1625 and hit 71c only :D Had to go back to +/- 0mv for that

Hmm

Did anyone else gets a weird scratch sound coming from the radiator from time to time? Did it yesterday couple of times during the day but ignored it. However today every 1h or so is doing it for just for 2-3 seconds and is gone.

No temps issue or anything else according to the monitor software and is doing it while idle also. Any thoughts?
I do plan to go full underwater by end of the year, and is a nice card (not as nice as bemaniac's one), running cool and quiet at 1030/1625 with plenty of overclocking headroom. So I do not want to send it back. :(

(managed to get it all way to 1190/1625 but runs hot and needs proper watercooler with 2 360/480 on it's own)

I've got a water block now but no card! Hopefully RMA comes soon. I currently have no GPU, sold my 680's. Did I mention I think the RMA department is the best! :)

are you sure about that, my 7990 is undervolted and seems to be performing the same as the 295X2..... and that includes with the core/memory backed off as well.....

with your card the 120 mm rad is way too small, i would swap it out for a 240mm and then send the receipt to AMD for them to pay for it ;)
