AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

a) Stock fan push
b) Piranha (1) push
c) Piranha (2) Push-Pull

OK. Results.

Stock fan & 1 Piranha make no difference. The Piranha is more loud also.
Temps are more or less the same. (63C/58C max temp on Valley)

However. 2 Piranhas, in Push-Pull the temps are 5C LESS on both cores on full load. Resulting at 1018/1625 a difference of 20 points in Valley (5116 against 5136). (58C/53C max temp on Valley).
That is with 80% fan speed. (46db noise from whole system).

EDIT : Quick update. (put the CPU as before)

The Piranhas at 70% are very quiet. Whole system 37db. That is 10db less between 80% (100% also) fan speed and 70%. Weird....
Same settings as before. The card max temps on Valley were 61C/57C Valley score 5148.

To sum up : -75mV || 50% PL || 1018/1625

Stock fan/Piranha_(80% speed 44db) : Max temps on Valley 63/58 - 5116 - 122.3 fps
2 Piranhas_______(80% speed 46db) : Max temps on Valley 58/53 - 5136 - 122.6 fps (possibly something tried to run on the CPU)
2 Piranhas_______(70% speed 36db) : Max temps on Valley 61/57 - 5148 - 123 fps

Hope that helps. :)

well i've just buggered up my install of my new card :(

go the stock cooler off without issue and was getting the thermal pds that come with the EK block ready and like a **** measured up the strip, put it down and then picked up the wrong one and cut it. again ****!

it does annoy me that on a reference only design like the 295x that EK do not pre-cut the strips. OK the do for the RAM but the 2 thicker pads could have also been pre-cut making the whole thing easier to do. Oh well, I have ordered some replacement and will crack on when they arrive.

DOH!

oh and this card is gong to be ******* heavy with the EK block and backplate! i think the tubing will have to add some support as i dont like the idea of hanging 1.8kg off the pcie slot!

I know the Pirahna is sort of designed for watercooling rads, but how would it work as a rear exhaust fan only?

Might see if I can mount my replacement 295x2 rad at the front of my case. The 140mm Viper would push air in and then pull air through using the standard 295x2 fan.

Or shall I just see how it works with the rad at the back?

Thanks for the info in this thread. I'm a complete over-clocking novice, so it's been useful.

I've also got a H440 + r9 295x2. Currently I've got the r295 as an exhaust on the back, h100 up-top as an exhaust and the 3 fans at the front on intake.

If I swap the 295x2 Rad/Fan as an intake, it will blow warm air into the h100. Should I then swap the h100 to intake as well and set the front fans to exhaust.

I just run dead rising 3 and crisis 3 over the past hour or so with a small OC increase on card ( 1030/1300) and max temp I got was 67 deg on GPU.. Stayed mainly between 62 and 65 .... CPU was a lil warmer than usual at 70 (4.5ghz) , but all was quiet and smooth and I'm happy with the setup plus it looks tidy

Getting some new fans coming tomorrow for my rig. Wondering if I should set it up as a pull fan or possibly a push pull for the 295 radiator. Because currently I have x2 120mm intakes on the front, x2 120mm exhausts on the top with my H100i. Which leaves the 5th one, either as an intake or exhaust. Currently it's an exhaust, what do you guys suggest/reckon?

Mines arriving today.

So my question is this.

My rig is 17 3770k @4.0ghz, 8 gig g-skill 2133mhz, superflower leadex gold 1300w, gigabyte Z77x-D3H, case coolermaster HAFX

Will any of these components throttle the card?

Also whats the best way to set up the cooling for the card. I haven't got a seperate water cooling system and so will just be using the standard closed loop but any suggestions on best place to install and direction of fan? Also I'll have a spare 120 fan, so can I fit it to the radiator to get a push/pull set up?

I set mine at the the front of the case using a 140mm as an intake and i turned the stock cooler fan around as a pull and couldn't be happier card has not throttled once even playing Crysis 3 on ultra it reached a max temp 0f 67 ....running 3d mark benches its running about 55- 57 deg and thats with a mild oc on the card to 1030core 1350 mem

syceo1 - That looks really tidy.

Andrew - Your 140mm intake, I presume that is plugged in to the motherboard and therefore automatically controlled?

I did find out via Google, in another 295x2 owners forum, that you can power 2x fans directly off the PCB power if you can get a 3 pin fan splitter.

If anyone wanted to give that a try.

Edit - My replacement card is due back this afternoon. Great service from Overclockers as the faulty (throttling) card was only collected on Wednesday.

yeah the 140 is powered by the Motherboard but i set it through the bios on temp basis
the front of the case actually has 2x 140mm as intake (MB controlled)

i know this wouldn't affect the temp of the GPU, but so far its running cool and quiet after a heavy session last night playing games
I had a Sapphire OC version of this card earlier in the year and it was always at 75 deg when i was using it as an exhaust and throttling
