AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

Mines not overheated as such.. there was one time where i hit the 75'c limit and it throttled in a indie steam game..

i've loaded up the pc and gone straight into BF4 where it felt like it was running on one GPU when i had the Xfire enabled sign in the top right.. a reboot and it ran smoother..

also had BF4 lock up and half the screen go blue.. this time when i rebooted i only got half the screen working, other half was black.

Use MSI overlay to check your temps. Maybe undervolt your card and make sure the radiator is correctly placed as per instructions.

(Higher level than the card and the pipes at the bottom).

What are your idle temps?

If all fail and you use the Catalyst 14.8, then possibly you might need to RMA the card :(
Also do you use AMD Evolve having set it to optimise the games?
Do use the DP or DVI connection? Do you use adapter? have you tried without the adapter?

I've got the overlay installed and temps don't go over 70'c, tried undervolting by 60mv. Radiator is fixed to the roof of the case, pipes pointing down.

idle is around 35'c and i've tried 14.4,14.7, 14.x beta and i'm currently on 14.8 which still has the issues..

i've tried a fair few setting changes but when i think i've got it cracked.. the flickering starts or it starts to chug..

it's connected by display port (monitor) to mini display port and it's a dell cable which came with the monitor.

think i've tried everything..

I did wonder that myself.

If the 290/290x cards are designed to run up to 94°C, then why can't two stitched together run at the same? Unless the watercooling system would get mucked up by those sort of temperatures? If so they should have used a 240mm rad.

Not all of the card is watercooled, the VRMs and all are air-cooled. Maybe that's part of it. And in any case, properly installed the cooling should keep the temps below that, it's perfectly adequate for the task ... you're more likely to hit the power limits.

Anyone have a weird issue where the cores drop for like 3-4 seconds to 300mhz? Happened in both L4D and Tomb Raider for me.

I'm using Trifire and also playing at 4K, so I'm wondering if it's just a raw tech issue. It's not that big of a deal.

Depends.

If you have enabled ULPS possibly that is right. If not, and you run on reduce power, raise the power. Else, are you sure the game you play supports CF?

74C from what I've seen, though some say it is 75C. Thereabouts anyway.

To hit 75C with the stock fan, properly set and with cold air blowing at it, you need to overclock the card at 1100/1625 at least.

You will hit power limit faster than temperature limit though.
But all is theoretical.

There are modded BIOS that allows more overclocks. But I would advice not to use then but only with full blown watercooling solution.

Someone here was at 1200/1650 on full watercool and believes could push it more. Not bad for a single card tbh.

think i've tried everything..

Change the DP connection, if you are using the one next to DVI. Someone else was experiencing some issues with that port, but had connected DVI monitor also though.

Also did you try to switch the BIOS? there is a switch on the card. Just in case turn it, and see. Or else RMA it :(

just wondering what sort of score should i get with my system/setup on valley 1.0

i7 4770k oc'd to 4.4 with a cosair h100 cooler
maximus 6 hero board with 8 gig of ram
1300 psu evga supernova
sapphier 9 295 at stock speeds
240 gb ssd
am useing the amd 14.7 beat drivers
asus 28 inch 4k monitor

used the system for 3 hours of rome 2 and afterburner said the card never hit past 60 temp wise.

In bf 4 with mantel running with all on ultra the ingame fps reader says i am hitting on average 62 fps.

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated :)

Yeah Tomb Raider works fantastically with it. I'm there running at 70-80 FPS and it just dips.

Think you might be right about the power, I'll raise it.

Compare your result to the Valley leaderboard: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18489026

There are a few 295X2's in there.

At 1080p Extreme you should be looking for around 5100 with 14.8 WHQL drivers.
