AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

Hmmmm got a hard choice here. I bought an Asus Rog Swift, unfortunately there's more issues with the compatibility between this monitor and the card. Unfortunately at 100/122hz it will occationally go blank for a second or so and come back, it happens here and there. Which can be annoying if i'm dogfighting in a game. However if I put it to a 144hz it flickers like mad making it 100% unusable at that setting.
So i'm stuck with do I wait for a billion years for AMD to fix this or do I return the card and unfortunately defect to grab some 980's :(.

most people would actually go for the rog swift for gsync so those with nvidia cards would go for that monitor.
you would be better going for a freesync monitor...
rog swift is pointless for amd users.

Does Precision allows you to get to 1690? Or you use modified BIOS?

Impressive results tbh, good one :D Post it on the heaven leaderboard

hehe will post it there once i figure out if i can go higher im just testing at the mo :D

1220core seems stable aswell lol

as for the memory yeah i am using official sapphire oc bios 1030/1300 defaults but allows a little extra oc on the memory :)
and that is not precision X that i am using as thats just for nvidia cards.... im using there skin though over MSI afterburner :)

Maybe return the card and get 2 Nvidias. You will benefit more from the GSync module.

My 120hz monitor doesn't have such issues on Crysis 3 that hits 120fps on some scenes.

Cheers Panos. I might do that as much as it pains me, I do like the card but there is a serious lack of 1440p monitors + 120/144hz as well.

There are many threads about the HX1000W, some dated back in May this year with someone who had issues with the 295X2.

That is the spec of the HX1000W.

You need to make sure (and I mean absolute sure) the cables that you connect to the card are from the two different rails. And still pray that it will work.

Is not the typical single rail design where any cable will go and the power will be supplied.

After all is 6 years old PSU.
Back in 2008 we needed around 18A max for cards that were using around 230W (4870 and GTX280 comes to mind) while mainstream was the 9800GTX which had 12A and 140W or something close to that.

The 295X2 needs 40A and 500W. And if Gibbo says a 6 year old dual rail is not enough, I will take his word. I have a Corsair 700W and I could have easily plug the 295X2. But was dual rail and I knew that going to have problems with it. Hence I bought a Superflower 1000W.

100% failed for me when I ran my system at 4k running my 4770k at 4.4 Any other resolution it managed fine with no cpu over clocking. I bought the evga 1300 supernova. All works a charm now. Any recommendation for another 290 to run tri fire with ??

The most quiet one you can find. I doubt I will ever consider using aircooled card EVER after this one :D

Tip is your H440 open or have the front off? Unfortunately it seems to be a bad case for this card. Mine gets too hot with the front on.

Gave it a go with the front off, negligible difference.

Taking the Top off does result in 64c rather than 72c (While running Ungine Valley continuously). I'm thinking of changing the 295x2 Rad back to out-take from intake.

I'm not overly worried about the temps, normal Wow game-play it hovers about 60c (at 3440x1440 resolution). It's a great case and a great gfx card.

Awesome performance in GRID Autosport!

Doesn't matter what I tweak there is next to no improvement. Crysis 3 is the only game that runs great, 60% of games end up crashing. Metro Redux can't even get to the main menu, Skyrim crashes in 5 seconds, Dirt 3 shows absolutely nothing.

Think I might just return and get 2 780TIs for the same price now + better performance and less power demand.

Something wrong there, Metro Redux works fine for me.

Skyrim also.

By the way, my new card seems to be performing within spec.

Idle at 36C and after an hour of Crysis 3 (1440p, Very High, SMAA MGPU (2x) )it was topping out at 70C

That's better.
