AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

Yeah I noticed performance was... underwhelming to say the least and Mantle doesn't work at all. I was getting around 90fps at 1080p with everything on Ultra. Seems like Crossfire isnt working with BF4 either...

I get the same directx error too, it only seems to be occur in DA:I and BF4. I'm fine in mantle though. Is it something to do with the frostbite engine? Because I can play borderlands fine in directx for hours

Ok, I've come across a very bizzare issue, I have no idea whats going on.

Got a replacement displayport cable today, and discovered that the new cable will only work on displayports 2 and 4 on the card.

The old cheap cable works on all 4 displayports....

If I connect the new cable to ports 1 or 3, then I get a constant "connected" and "disconnected" sound playing. Like it will connect, then immediately disconnect, and repeat that until I unplug it. No display at all and no dialog on the screen. Just blank.
Very bizzare, because the cheap cable works on all ports....

Once I connect the new cable to a working port, I have this message on the screen:
The system has detected a link failure and cannot set the requested
resolution and refresh rate of your Displayport display. Your display
might not support the requested resolution or there may be an issue
with the cable connecting the display to your computer.

Im stumped... Card is obviously not faulty because the cheap cable works fine on all ports, but the new cable cant be faulty either because it works fine in ports 2 and 4.... wtf?

The cable is a Monster Digital Life Displayport Cable

You're probably short on the swap file. Some games consume a lot of swap.

In general you shouldn't be using much if any swap file unless you've actually run out of RAM and with 16GB of RAM if he's run out then something else is the problem as no current game should be using that much.

We recommend people use only cables that are on the Display Port 1.2 certified cable list. Is your cable on there?

I'm currently using one of these, Accell UltraAV B142C-007B DisplayPort to DisplayPort 1.2 Cable with Latches (6.6 Feet / 2m) which is in the list. :)

I see yours has a minidp connection on one end. Since getting my 295x2 i needed an adapter too, so i again went with an Accell B112B-001B 10 Inches UltraAV Mini Display Port/DisplayPort(f) Adapter - Black pictured below. This is also on the certified list. :)

I don't have any of the issues you described, so this would be my first port of call. :)

Both Star Citizen's Arena Commander and BF4 consume a lot of swap space, well over 10GB. Not sure about other games, but no doubt there are plenty. And yes, that's with 16GB of memory.

I originally planned to get one of those because I looked up all the "certified" cables that you mentioned.
The reason I didn't get it was because theres apparently nowhere in europe that stocks them right now. Amazon will apparently have them in 2-4 weeks which is a bit silly.
I also discovered that there is apparently no such thing as a "Displayport 1.1" or "Displayport 1.2" cable, and that, according to Displayport.org, all Displayport cables are compatible with all Displayport capable devices.

Despite what you may read, there is no such thing as a DisplayPort 1.1 cable and DisplayPort 1.2 cable. A standard DisplayPort cable, including the so-call DisplayPort 1.1 cables, will work for any DisplayPort configuration including the new capabilities enabled by DisplayPort 1.2, including 4K and multi-stream capabilities. All standard DisplayPort cables support RBR, HBR (High Bit Rate), and HBR2 (High Bit Rate 2), which can support 4K at 60Hz, or up to four 1080p displays using multi-stream.

So, knowing that Monster has a reputation of making "high quality" and "overpriced" cables, I went ahead and bought one.

I will, however, try one of those Accell cables, when they eventually become available in europe again.

Edit: On a side note, I do think that if you're supposed to use a "certified" cable, one should really be provided with the card. I shouldn't really have to go scouring the internet days/weeks after I've bought the card, trying to find one that works properly...

Yeah, that sounds like rubbish to me. Any DisplayPort cable should work really.

Occasionally I get DisplayPort failed messages, but it's very rare and usually happens when turning my second screen (4k TV) on.

Non certified cables can work, but obviously we cannot test all of these so cannot assure that they will work without issue. Unfortunately there is a lot of rubbish out there so if having issues this would be the first place to look. I have a two non certified cables, both of which came with different monitors. One works ok but the other gave off some flickering so your mileage may vary.

I wish you had mentioned that a few days ago. I would have went ahead and ordered a new cable right there and then, instead of spending the last few days looking around thinking my card was faulty. Oh well.

Just played for an hour, and the issue is still there :( My screen actually blanked for a split second on multiple occasions, and on other occasions im getting like a think band of static going across the screen for a split second. I think the powercut has damaged my card :'(

Heres a mockup I made to show whats happening:

I've read on AMD's forums that a low quality Displayport cable can also cause screen flicker. So i've bought a higher quality cable. One of those stupid overpriced Monster cables. See if it makes a difference. Makes no sense that this issue only appeared after the power cut though. I have noticed that the issue doesn't seem to occur on my secondary monitor which is connected via DVI, which suggests that it is the Displayport cable that is at fault.

Lmao!

Anyway, I've figured out that my card is not faulty, and the flickering im experiencing is down to either the monitor, or the cheap displayport cable im using (which I bought from ocUK believe it or not) lol

To be perfectly honest Loque looking at your first screenshot would not typically make me think it could be a faulty cable, but i guess you learn something new everyday. At least you know your card is not faulty though. :)
