AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

Ah fair enough, are you hitting the vram limit often then or just playing it safe?

The following games benefit from 8GB.

Battlefield 4 (Mantle)
Dragon Age (Mantle)
Thief (Mantle)
Hitman Absolution (DX)
Crysis 3 (DX)
Shadow Of Mordor (DX)
COD Advanced Warfare (DX)
Watchdogs (DX)
Wolfenstein (DX)

Those are the games i know of and play, there may be others.

One thing to consider, you'll need at least two 290X 8GB in the majority (but not all!) of cases to use more than 4gb and keep playable fps.

Thanks Matt, I'm still undecided whether to go 4K or 1440/144Hz when the Freesync monitors (finally!) come out but I think I'm leaning towards 1440p for now as it does seem as though the vram limit is going to become more of an issue sooner rather than later.
Hopefully once the 3xx series cards are out I can grab a cheap 290x to go trifire (once I correct my stupid mistake of only getting an 850w psu!) to give me the extra grunt for high frame rates. Will be a much cheaper option than selling up the 295x2 for higher vram cards to max out 4K.

295x2's are slightly faster and cooler than my 8GB 290X cards, but once you exceed 4gb video memory no other card available can match the 290X 8GB. :)

What would happened if I would tri fire 295x2 with 8gb 290x? theoretical question... I am too undecided about what monitor to go for... will see what the free sync gives us.... ideally one 4k 144hz for sub 500quid...but I can dream on....

Is that for 4k?

No point pairing a 290X 8GB card with a 295x2 as you will still only have 4GB of usable memory. Pair it with another 290X 4GB card and be prepared to lower AA if you run into issues with video memory.

Right just installed my new 295x2... Nothing. Got two power cables plugged in... Fans not coming on at all? Am I being a dumbass here?

Just unplugged and slapped back in... This is weird. Nothing. Just checked any instructions just in case I was missing something... Nowt apart from telkig me not to use converters. Got the two 12v rails plugged in. The fan is not even working.Wtf?

If you are using converters, then yeah you really shouldn't (not saying it is the problem, but you are possibly at risk of melting them) ... you want proper PCIe cables with this card. What PSU do you have?
