AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

How come you have it in the bottom slot?
actually im not using the Tri-x only the R9 295x2 that was only for testing and benchmarks :D ... And when you wanna use only one gpu that`s the only way, with the r9 295x2 as primary is not possible that i know... but not sure

edit: Is my first crossfire build ...

Welcome to the club. :)

Few suggestions for you.

1. Swap the cards round, it will work better temp wise.
2. Turn your psu over so it sucks out the heat that the Tri-X dumps in the case.
3. Make sure the 295x2 Rad is exhausting out of the case.
4. High static pressure intake fans at the front of the case.
5. Remove any spare pci brackets.

Correct, you can't actually run just 1 GPU with a 295x2 unless there isn't a crossfire profile in which case it does it automatically.

Actually gents, you can. :)

1. Add the game.exe file to CCC (i used Alien Isolation below)
2. Select the exe you've just added to CCC by clicking on it
3. Under AMD CrossFireX mode select disabled and click save

Now Crossfire will be disabled for that particular game on the 7990 or the 295x2, even if a profile exists.

Ah I see, well like AMDMatt suggested there is that way which should make life much more simple for you. Exhausting out of the case is a big thing too, definitely do that if it's not already.

Thank you Matt, i really appreciate it ..... I'll do that

And now i know how to run just one gpu when i need it, thanks. :)

Interesting suggestion with the PSU - won't that heat it up though?

How is GTAV running on this card?

Runs very well so far, I've got everything pretty much maxxed with 4x MSAA and "AMD CHD" shadows (whatever that is) and it achieves 55-60fps at a vsync locked 2560x1440. Seen one brief drop to 40ish fps.

Good to hear. Was expecting a few more fps though?

I'm not overclocked at the moment, CPU is at stock (cores are still only loaded at around 40-50%), GPU is slightly underclocked for better temps ... putting those OC's back might boost it a little. And well, it's really on almost all of the highest settings, but I've not played around much with it yet.

It runs very well anyway. :)

no good for gtaV 4k. Can't run very high or ultra and certainly no msaa. On high at the moment for 60fps. Maybe wait for some tri-CF benchies and buy another single 290x

Hey guys

Any tips on a good choice of 290/290X for trifire with a 295X2? Preferably a reference design so I can fit an EKWB to it (Original CSQ R1.0).

I've heard that both the 295X2 and 290/290X should both run at full capacity so I don't need to worry about matching clock speeds too much.

Current setup is below

Asus Maximus Z87 - Formula with i7 4790k
Sapphire 295X2 with EKWB
Corsair AX1200i
16GB DDR3 1833

I'm struggling at 1080p on the 295 X 2 I'm sure it's drivers though (i'm on windows 10)

I've tuned settigns to high and reasonable to try and maintain 120 fps but still getting weird drops.

I do need to OC my Cpu though.

too many variables Chuffed with the game though.

Are you getting the core clocks bouncing around a lot? For some reason even at +50 power they don;t stay stable for me at their default speed.

yeah my clocks move around ever so slightly. If you go back to stock they are well behaved though. First game that gave me hardlocks with 1500mhz memory so I put it all back to stock.

I really do love how cool and quiet this thing is. it is one of the main things that used to bother me with these dual cards. I hope they continue to utilise this form of cooling, it really is brilliant.
