AMD RDNA3 unveiling event

Yeh the last crypto boom lasted most of the cycle, this time though Nvidia and AMD should (hopefully) get a slap in the face, when you think the demand is lower as well as the fact people in general will have less money to spend.

I'm interested in what Nvidia will try and sell the 4070 and 4070ti for that will give us an idea on the prices they are aiming at.
I think both AMD and nvidia are planning to give us around 3090 performance at around £700-800 which tbh is not great as it'll only be a 15% uplift over what £600-650 could have gotten you two years ago.

Yeh i'm thinking i might wait a month and buy a card in Jan, give the scalpers their chance to buy at higher prices then see what they settle on. I really need a new card, but atm i'm playing and enjoying games back from 2012 so i don't particulary need one right this second.
I am eying a 7900xtx though as I don't need to pay the RT tax at this time.

Surprised TPU would post fake YouTube benchmarks as news.

The most outlandish claim is saying the 4070Ti could release for as little as $599.

Yeah 4070TI half the price of the 4080. Not happening.

Even after the 4080 price some people are still deluded about Nvidia's MO, probably the same sort of people who keep banging on about how Nvidia are worth it because X and Y, while at the same time expect them not to behave like a monopoly.

That's not how it works, the $ is not directly comparable to the £.

£1 buys you $1,23, so $1000 / 1.23 = £813 + 20% VAT = £975.
You need to add a ~10% "UK surcharge" on top of the US price. I've been buying retail including PC hardware tit for tat across US and UK for the last 10 years and still can't put my finger on the reason for this added cost, but it's invariably there for most consumer retail goods. I think it's due to a combination of smaller market (less reseller competition, worse negotiation power, more captive consumers), FX hedging, and added bulk import charges. It's why I normally try to buy when back in Homeland when I can help it.

So, it's more like... £1000/1.23 = £813 + 20% VAT + 10% UK surcharge = ~£1196.

If the reference 7900XT/XTX appear for higher prices than they should be then just don't buy them and prices will fall, it's clearly working for the 4080 although that card still has a long way to go.
I don't understand why so many people don't get this.. without us, the cattle, the butcher has no business :P.
