AMD RDNA3 unveiling event

And there's this:

Seems like the gpu/memory is the reason why the power consumption is up.

Not sure why you need ramp up gpu/vram clocks to play a video. It's as if there is no VCN 4.X silicon.
Or is this a driver bug and VCN isn't enabled?? Either way there is no VCN being used.
When I was reading VCN I thought I heard GCN in my head and thought good god they aren't bringing that rubbish back again are they? :D

RT is overrated.
100% depends on how it is implemented in a game. RT isn't a blanket feature that has the same output on all games. The dev has to do it effectively.

Cyberpunk 2077 = Night and day difference when RT is enabled, and the fps hit is up to 40fps which is very reasonable for all the effects going on..

Callisto Protocol = You have to eyeball full res to spot any small difference, and you lose 60fps instantly at 1440P. RT in this game in its current state is overrated.

There are loads of other examples of RT making huge differences too. The latest being Fortnite which sees a massive difference with performance still remaining high.

No they haven't, good grief...

Oh but they have. If you going to spend £1000+ what's another £100 or so for a more well rounded card? Only people who hate RT will not see the extra value, but even then the 4080 is better in other ways like power efficiency etc.

Not that either are remotely worth the asking price...

The 4080 is such a terribly priced card, AMD going chiplet's and all that which was meant to make it cheaper to manufacture should have been able to blow it out of the park. And it would have done had it been named a 7800 XTX cost £650 or there abouts. But instead AMD saw Nvidia's silly pricing and though oh nice, let's change the name and charge silly money too ourselves

In a way can you blame them? If they charged £650 Nvidia would have probably lowered their price. But at least this way people would not be giving AMD a hard time and would have made Nvidia look even more greedy than they already are. Plus would have more than likely yielded higher market share. What they have done now I think they may end up in single digit market share. But at least will be more profitable I guess..

Of course you will get the usual lot say yea but you just wanted AMD to come in at a lower price so you could buy Nvidia. What a load of ******! :D

They could have had 10 cards in tock, means nothing.
Why is there so much hype for AMDs release then? Maybe not as much now, but a slight drop in the price on the 4080 and it will be 3080 all over again. Yes they may not sell as many.. but its all about demand meeting the supply. When it comes to top tier GPUs, the people who are buying them don't care about a few hundred quid. Especially after what happened where it was so hard to get one.. its more like a privilege now to buy one!

So marginally faster in raster and ~15% slower in RT at 4K compared to the 4080. If the 7900 XTX is £150 cheaper than a 4080 it is still marginal better price/perf. But for me both are still overpriced. Both are decent GPUs from a technical/performance perspective, just the prices are far too high.

As anticipated neither the 4080 or 7900 XT(X) appeal to me at their prices, I will stick with the 3080 I have.

Because AMD said these cards would be 50-70% better than a 6950XT which would have at least meant 15%+ faster than a 4080 for £200 less.

I think they will struggle to sell many at all at this rate.

At this point consumers are better off boycotting the GPU market or going used/second hand if they can't wait and want any semblance of value.

I didn't realise this was launching today!
