AMD RDNA3 unveiling event

I just watched the Hardware Unboxed review.

The 7900XTX is only 25% faster across the 13 games they tested, that's including two games where it beat the 4090 by 5% at 4K.

The performance delta for the 7900XTX over the 6950XT was mostly around 15 to 20%, one or two cases even 0%, that's really odd, and way down from the +50 to 70% AMD claimed, HUB used a lot of the games AMD used in their slides and the results fell very much short of those claims.

Is this an indication of a problem with it? There are instances where the performance is phenomenal, beating the 4090, other instances where its frankly bad, but mostly when compared with the 6950XT clearly under-performing.

I'm guessing really borked drivers that will improve in time, hopefully

Brand New architecture.

I really don't want to say it, but i'll say this, i doubt its anywhere near where AMD expected it to be, its not even two tiers up the SKU stack in the same generation of GPU's, barley more than one, you could almost get this level of performance by clocking up the 6950XT a bit more and sticking 24GB/s memory on it.

Low resolution it can beat 4090 due to infinity cache. That becomes worthless at higher resolutions though because infinity cache doesn't make up for the sheer amount of grunt required

It absolutely kills me to say this, but the only card worth buying this generation is the 4090.

I’m still tempted by the 7900XTX, it just seems a bit buggy. And the high noise on the reference cards is a real blow.

I imagine cards like the Sapphire will be £1200, which is just far too much.

If Nvidia dropped the price of the 4080 further they would absolutely clean up.

Cheapest xtx is £1079.

XT £919 :cry::cry::cry:

Jesus with the reviews now out a 4080 is only £100 more.

7900xtx still wins for me as I'd need to buy a new Case and PSU to handle the 4080 so it puts the overall cost up, but if you already have a case the 4080 is the better buy of the two cards imo.

You're talking about this, but what about the second image?

one more thing, its difficult to trust amd on face value - idk why they do that, its not like ppl wont find out.. its just a self defeating strategy, the brand takes a beating, many bitter potential amd customers must be cursing them because they must have lost valuable time waiting for the launch

It's back to good old AMD, it seems. Overpromise massively, and underdeliver notably.

Most likely better accoustics and no coil whine noise. That's enough of a big deal, at least for me.

Higher power limits and better cooling normally means higher overclocks. Depending on the chip, this can be a big deal or a fart in the bath.

RT is overrated.
Not at a grand it isnt.
Possibly.. Hopefully not within seconds and will give the ones who want one a chance to get one before the bots and scalpers move in.
The scalpers already got burnt with the 4080. Why would they buy this? Just like the 4080, the 7900XTX is a giant detour sign towards the 4090 if you have the cash or a last gen GPU if on a budget. The 4090 is the only next gen card on the market based on all these performance figures.

Also, important point to remember when it comes to RT performance is no games are using SER except for portal RTX currently (future RT games will have this) so the gap in RT is going to be even larger going forward

Most likely not as AMD are in the consoles. Game developers would be shooting themselves in the foot.
