AMD RDNA3 unveiling event

So the card is power constrained. According to this.

So the key points to look out for is does it achieve the fps AMD detailed in their announcement if yes. Will AIB cards be power limited or can they do turn it up. Because we could see a decent performance gap between reference and AIBs.

If they’ve found a fix for N32 then they will most likely find a fix for n31. It will make a mid cycle refresh, actually decent.

With the prices gibbo provided us (these were when the pound was weaker though), I'm expecting the AIB models to get a decent uplift in performance, certainly to be comfortably ahead of the 4080 anyway, iirc:

AIB reference - £1050-1100
AIB custom - £1100/1200

If it's power limited, and it beats the 4080/everything at it's price point... that gives the AIBs a really interesting chance.

Upgrade the cooling and power to 4090 levels in a 3 slot beast, that starts to sound really interesting. And the AIBs can spread across the price range with real distinctions between them and the core AMD product.

aib use a race to the bottom for components policy and the extra price is brand tax only

No wonder LtMatt got a 4090!

I mean I would rather judge it on the gaming performance than a benchmark suit. Also, you must factor in price/performance if AMD can release at the event price of £1k vs a 480 at £1200/1500
What sort of frame rate would you want for £200 or £500 less?

At least wait until the real reviews are out before rolling out the damage limitation.

I am, that's why I said I hope those are not real because you can get a rough idea where it will land based on those.

Let's wait and see what's what when the benchmarks for games are out, but I expected better in truth based on those charts if they are real.

I expected that too, but someone else posted that the XTX is power restricted so could be underperforming at high loads, meaning the AIBs should be noticeably better.

We will see in a few days.

Isn't 4080 now £1099? At least FE is anyway, which I think are staying in stock for a good while, obviously if people aren't patient then they'll have to pay the aib prices.... I'm not interested in either the 4080 or 7900xtx but if a 7900xtx does in fact perform similar to a 4080, you would have to be silly to go 7900xtx path when a 4080 would offer superior RT perf. and dlss 3 (arguably still better IQ and certainly better uptake and FG now as opposed to later next year by amd and chances are that won't be as good, at least on launch)

In all seriousness though, with a driver update or 2, I'm expecting it to be ahead of a 4080 in games but it will need to be at least 20% ahead to justify going for it over a 4080 @ £1099 if them timespy scores apply to games too..... I suspect the reference ones will be a bit limp and it will be the custom aib models which shine but expect prices for those to be £1200+

You could say the same for Intel or AMD, why don't they make games for their hardware.

I think we should be thankful that PC doesn't have hardware exclusive games like consoles, anyone advocating for it is silly
It shouldn't be about hardware exclusive games, but rather PC exclusive, as in really pushing graphics and gameplay forward.
I guess, in a way, Quake, Portal RTX and Minecraft RTX are such games in a sense...

Problem is, now more than ever, if gamers don't have access to powerful hardware due to crazy pricing it will be pointless.

As @shankly1985 said 4080 performance for same/less money is good, no?

If the 4080 is the same/less money than the 7900 but performs around the same, the 4080 will be the better deal as the RT performance it will be more future proof.

The AIBs will hopefully make it better but I think AMD would lose the efficiency crown at that point.

Important point here too which many overlooked with rdna 2 vs ampere, was when it came to rt workloads, ampere is considerably more power efficient, it will be the same with ada and rdna 3 too, if anything, difference might even be larger especially if you throw in dlss and FG and if more future RT games implement SER.....

If it performa the same as a 4080 it needs to be less, quite a bit less if AMD want to gain any market share. I mean if it is £50 or even £100 might as well go Nvidia and get DLSS 3 and better RT and better resale price as much bigger market to sell to.

We don't suddenly go from laughing at a 4080 and it's pricing and think it's great because AMD offer similar performance for £100 less. To be a good card it needs to be way less. I even said 4080 should be £700 or so to appeal to me.
