AMD RX 7900 XT/XTX Upgrade discussion

I know exactly what you mean.

But by the time you spend the money on 4080 it's almost like why not go the extra mile and get the 4090?

I'm so confused..

Thanks for the reply though.
So original plan for me was the 7900XT which is £900 , then I thought let's go with the 7900XTX which originally I had in my mind is a £1000 product. So only £100 jump which is fair considering. Then to 4080 which is another £200 jump from the XTX , and from the 4080 to the 4090 is another £400 jump. See what im getting at.

However if you have to have the absolute best. The 4090 is a no brainer. However I prefer to have something that is cooler and quieter in operation and the 4080 from what I have seen seems to fit the bill nicely. However that £1200 price point is bit hefty atm. However rumours it might be reduced again in the new year has made me consider just to wait a bit longer.

Im going to be upgrading from a 3060Ti anyways.

Gonna try and grab an XTX for my boys Christmas present. He saved birthdays and christmas for an Nvidia 3070 a couple years back, didnt buy it, and has been holding his money ever since. We are gonna put half towards it. I undertsand its the Saphire models that will be in stock at 2pm. Is it the XTX nitro or XTX pulse or XTX gaming? Or will they all be in stock? If so, which is recommended?

Only MBA reference design instock for £1049. Rest are jan/feb.

not much diffrence between the mba and aib's gibbo said, clocks seem around the same, mba cards run a bit warmer than aib's but it's not bad at all, plus mba cards will fit no problem in any case XD

So originally my plan A was to get the 7900XTX on launch day.

After learning about the 7900XTX power issues, especially whilst idle, it's made me seriously reconsider going ahead with the purchase @ 1400hrs today.

Thankfully.. due to these forums I was able to purchase a plan B, 6900XT, during Black Friday.

I was going to gift that to my brother if things went well with today's launch so I could go with my original Plan A. 7900XTX and complete my build.

I know nobody has a crystal ball but what would you suggest now?

Option 1: Purchase the 7900XTX anyway and hope for AMD to fix the issues via software updates? (That's if they can fix the idle power issues.)

Option 2: Use the 6900XT and stop obsessing over GPU'S.

Option 3: Consider purchasing the 4080?

Option 4: **** it! Go all in and get the 4090?

Thank you!

I'm interested to see what you guys think?

I'll offer what will probably be the hardest option for you, but probably for the best........................................do nothing :)

Enjoy your very recently purchased 6900Xt, sit back grab the proverbial popcorn and enjoy the entertainment. There is nothing that you are missing out on that your damn fine GPU can't do already, and then some.
Look forward to Crimbo, enjoy life etc, play some games with your GPU.
Wait until Mid Jan to Feb of next year and see how the 7000 series have performed when people get to use them and AMD have pushed out a new driver, or two. It isn't just the power issues, it might be black screen and crashes etc. Buying a product that has not been tested in the market has risks. Mining does not need to be a factor, for now, in terms of stock. By mid Jan / Feb, who knows, Nvidia might have been compelled to take another look at their pricing...................perhaps not, with 88% market share, but we can live in hope :)

So, as hard as it might be...........................do nothing and enjoy your 6900XT.

(option 2)

I am looking for an upgrade from the 5700XT just to run 4K a little better and I like that this has more memory than the 4080 whilst offering similar performance, why the price though? I thought $999 was were we were expecting to be and not £1049?

The cheapest 4080 on OCUK has went up from £1150 to £1200. So the £1050 XTX is very slightly better price/perf if raster is your main aim. That is assuming you want to spend £1k on a GPU.

Far too many issues and maybe`s for me with this release, looks like more saving from my paper round to afford a 4090 :D

The problem with the 4090 is that here in the UK it has terrible price/perf, even compared to the already terrible price/perf of the 4080 and 7900 XTX.

Approx. UK prices as of this date
7900 XTX = £1050
4080 RTX = £1200
4090 RTX = £1700

Price/Perf of 4090 vs the 7900 XTX (from TPU)
You will pay 61% more for

10% better raster and 38% better RT performance at 1080p
17% better raster and 45% better RT performance at 1440p
25% better raster and 55% better RT performance at 4K

Price/Perf of 4090 vs the 4080 (from TPU)
You will pay 41% more for

5% better raster and 18% better RT performance at 1080p
11% better raster and 26% better RT performance at 1440p
25% better raster and 34% better RT performance at 4K

All this talk of just paying the extra for the better/price perf of the 4090, is nonsense when we look at actual UK prices. None of them are remotely priced well.
