I would say using negative pbo is the best way to under volt a 5800x3d , mine is set to -30 in the bios and works great , or use PBO tuner if unable to use bios

Well i lost the fight.

One came up for £280 so thought why not.

Should work out at £150 for the swap after i sell my 5800X. (will not be going on the bay)
Lol, I just did the same yesterday but I had a 5600. The difference in 1% lows is astonishing. Also the 4070TI is also much happier now because it's not being held back.
I was in two minds whether to jump on AM5 but the platform change was too expensive considering I have a car repair bill next week.

and me, mines coming today. I'm also going from a 5800X to 5800X3D. Supposed to make a big difference in iRacing.

Urgh, just means I have to clean off and reapply thermal compound.

I've just installed it. If you don't want any faffing about, is a safe bet to enable PBO in the bios and set to -15 all cores? Then just forget about it

and the worst job is refitting the cooler

I've no idea about this stuff.....after about 30mins temps are 31 in bios and 37 on desktop

It's a safe bet but I would be surprised if -30 wasn't stable. I went straight to -30 as have many others and not one issue :)

Ive just installed this CPU. Straight into ACC im getting a whopping improvement over the 5600x.

Corsair 4000d airflow
1 noctua fan i front 120mm
Vetroo v5 cooler with 1 fan pulling
1 crappy case fan in rear exhaust
16gb ram 3600mhz
3080 FE

Ive played around with combo strike and have following results

Stock
Cinebench 14219
Temps 83
Freq 4325 - 4350

Combo strike 1
Cinebench 14403
Temps 82
Freq 4350 - 4375

Combo strike 2
Cinebench 14562
Temps 79
Freq 4400 - 4425

Combo strike 3
Cinebench 14647
Temps 77
Freq 4450

There was so many voltage etc. Readings i wasnt sure what to look at.

I have some p12 120mm fans on the way so id hope once im sucking in more air and spitting a bit of hot air out the top as well, those temps will drop a few more degrees.

Given i game im tempted to run with combo strike 3 and save the hassle of the startup script with PBO tuner. Unless someone can tell me i can get at least 4600 frequency.

Thoughts?

I think its pretty much hard locked at 4450Mhz. So I was led to believe.
Make sure you shutdown all other software when running Cinebench. First time I ran it it had a score of about 14400 but found discord and battlenet running in the background.
I believe with -30 PBO on my Asus board I had

Cinebench 15010
Temp 69degC
Freq 4450 across the board steady.

Installed mine today.

Kombo Strike set to 3.

Cinebench 15089
Temp 75c :(
Freq 4550MHz @ 1.169v

Was expecting a bit better load temps using a 360mm Arctic Liquid Freezer ll. I do have a 1st revision, so does not have the offset bracket.

Maybe have to set a more aggresive fan curve in bios. (it does idle ~ 28c)

I find the 5800X3D to run hotter then the non 3D ones, my 5800X3D idles cooler than my 5950x did by a few degrees but at gaming load it's about 10c to 15c warmer under the same AIO, a Corsair H150i Elite LCD.

Depends on how CPU demanding the game is but it's usually somewhere around 60c to 75c. Under cinebench its around the high 50s low 60s.

And that's with the 5800X3D using quite a bit less power then the 5950x did at stock.

Is there any caveat to running this chip with the -30 (or any) under volt?

Thus far I have been happy just to leave mine alone. I got fed up with the instability over the years so now days I just run every thing at stock.

But you know once a tweaker always a tweaker...

whats wrong with 75c ? its perfectly fine I get 80c while running CB23 with Z73 360mm kombo at level 3 , games will run lower so wouldnt worry about it

Give it a try, see how it responds. A lot seem to be happy at -30 all core. Worth a bash.

Ok I'm gonna give it a go.

Mine is boosting to 4.42GHz multi and 4.47GHz single. Zero idea of it's stable but I'm running cinebench r23 atm.
To be fair, I just set it and didn't run much benchmarks. If it rebooted whilst idle, Or caused issues in game I would have known but everything seems happy so I actually forgot about it until this thread reappeared.
Lazy tuning I suppose.
