The delta between 7700k and 8700k comes down to modern engines being able to core scale. Frostbite for BF games, Foundation Engine used in Tomb Raider games are examples that core scale well.

Oh yeah, those results are with 4800c40 ram on the 12900k , lol. That's the equivalent of 2133c19 on ddr4, imagine if they ran the 5800x3d with 2133 ram. The pitchforks...
They did bring this up and SOTTR benefits heavily from DDR5 and even that crap DDR5 was beating 3200 c14 on 12900K

If they said 40/4800 ddr5 brings a benefit then they’re really quite clueless. 40/4800 is absolutely awful for ddr5. You need to start hovering 6500+ and tight secondaries to get something serious out of ddr5.
Buying 40/4800 is a great way to choke an adl system. Here’s a 12900k with tuned ddr5 at the same spot as their test.

In his case he's using 0.49 watts per frame.
The 5800X3D is using 0.25 watts per frame.
Just in case its not clear to you, the 5800X3D give in this example in 2X more efficient.
I didn't need to do that bit of maths to see how inefficient it was, its obvious. Its using a lot of power for what its doing. Which is the point i made.

Even if the freequency scaled linearly, it doesnt need to be massively overclocked. It beats it even at stock if you run the numbers. Actually it even beats it undercooked. In fact, even the 12700k will get very similar numbers with the same ram. The 12700k costs less than the 5800x3d will. So yeah...Interesting that a cpu has to be massively overclocked to *just* beat the new AMD part; is that a £3000 pc to beat it?
