*** AMD ThreadRipper ***

I very nearly got one... A competitor was selling it for around £380-ish, which i don't know if that's a mistake or if the rest of the UK retailers are just ripping us off as usual (probably). They've since raised the price by £100 so it's more in-line with the scammers, err i mean the other UK retailers. I see a similar thing happen with a Gigabyte board (Pro Wifi) where it was far cheaper than other retailers, then they raised the price after realising everywhere else charged way more.

The Taichi is a great board apart from the lack of USB inputs on the back and how it doesn't look as good as some other boards, but feature wise i'd say it's overall better than the Asus Strix TRX40-E even though that's what i ended up getting. If you plan to get more NVMe drives and don't need a ton of USB inputs i'd go for the Taichi. This guy really likes it.

Thanks for your reply watched the video and yes he does seem to really like it.

I’m using the TR Carbonaut pad with no issues to report. The temps are as good as they’ll get and install was easy. They require gentle handling but nothing extreme (ie keep away sharp tweezers and such and you’ll be fine).

Thanks for your reply may try this route if i upgrade instead of using paste for a change.

Good summary of all boards here. The Taichi kinda gets ripped.

Kinda gets ripped is a understatement there on that review lol Will have to have another look around coming back to the Aorus Master or the Strix

The Taichi is terrible, I've been using one since before the official launch. Avoid it at all costs.

What issue have you been having then ?

Thanks

Mainly BIOS related issues, and some stability problems. However they have got better and it was a Dev board, so ASRock assured me the replacement would be better and more stable, and the BIOS I have/had now is a lot better. I've not watched the video above, but I'd imagine it's more complaining about the design etc. as it is terrible compared to other Threadripper boards.

Jayz2Cents had a pre-production board (not Threadripper) and there were production differences which meant that when he updated the BIOS he bricked it.

Intel's best possible CPU they have to offer (Times by 2) vs AMD 3990x and it gets utterly destroyed.

Good times, well done to AMD its only good for us having products coming out like these.

When 1950x came out for the price it came with it was brilliant. 2 years later we got a 16core in the mainstream for cheaper price and better performance and 64 cores in the HEDT. In just 2 years!

Lets look back also at what intel was doing with the mainstream and HEDT and most importantly the prices of their top mainstream and HEDT..

Bravo AMD

I've made the switch from Intel, so far I've not noticed any difference in gaming performance, but it obviously does the workstation stuff miles better. Happy so far.

Which chip did you get?
I went from an 8086k to a 3960X. I'm selling my servers that I used to do virtualisation on. I'm under no illusions that that Intel CPU is better at single threaded performance and will be better in some games however for what I play I've noticed no difference.

24 cores, nice one!

single threaded performance only has its slight advantage due to the high clock speed. AMD only performs the same at much lower clocks due to the much better IPC.

Tbf, these aren't even tailored towards gaming, so the fact they still perform so well at it definitely shows how good AMD is doing atm
