On an Adobe Encode, I'm getting CPU 72 Degrees reported in Ryzen Master and 62 Degrees reported on my motherboard display. I can't remember why they are different.
Other tougher loads can push it up to 82 Degrees on Ryzen Master.

I haven't enabled PBO because this thing is powerful enough. I just run an all core overclock of 4.2 and a voltage of 1.275v. Seems to run cooler than stock and faster all core.

So who is planning an upgrade to a 3990x then :p??

Mine also runs cooler than stock with a 4.2GHz overclock @ 1.275v.

The highest i get is 75c on the motherboard display with a 10 min Blender render and PBO enabled... with 30c room temperature lol (wanted to test a worst case scenario). It reaches 4.1GHz on all cores with PBO, but in a 30c room it quickly throttles by just 50MHz. Not bad i guess, so i'm just leaving it on PBO for now.

And i noticed you have the same board and possibly the same RAM, 4x 16GB? Mine will do 3466MHz with 16-18-18-36 timings, or 3600MHz with 18-20-20-40. Both 1.35v and memtest86 stable. It wont boot with CL14 timings at 3466mhz though. But i'm currently testing different memory settings and so far higher clocks over tighter timings with lower clocks seems to perform slightly better.
 
Hey. So by coincidence having updated the Strix TRX40-E to BIOS 0702, I tried memory overclocking again.

I can now run 3600 CL 16 with 16-21-21-42 @ 1.42v. I can probably do tighter and at a lower voltage but I think it's fine for now.
The previous BIOS would freeze the PC on a CB20 run or a memory test @ 3600, so quite happy my cheap 'B-DIE' can run at the 3600 speed my 3900x was very happy to run at, albeit with only 32gb of it.

My ram is Corsair 16GBx2 CMW32GX4M2C3200C16 and 16GBx2 1CMU32GX4M2C3200C16 btw. One set is white the other Rainbow RGB.

However I feel 3970X is better and less exuberant CPU that won't get called bstrds if we post some numbers on the benchmarks in here :D

Nice :cool: I've got the same CMW32GX4M2C3200C16. I'm also on the same BIOS so i'll try that speed/timings tonight. I'd be very happy with CL16 @ 3600 with this RAM!

Have you tried a memtest86 run? I always run it over night for hours to confirm it's 100% stable as it's the only truly reliable way to test memory stability. I also tried 3533 with 16-18-18-36 last night and that wasn't memtest stable but it was only at 1.37v.

I haven't ran memtest yet but I will do that. I run testmem5 by 1usmus as a first point of call as it sometimes picks up errors faster than memtest86 does. Done CB20 tests, ran 2hr all core AVX video encodes, and it seems stable, fingers crossed. I'll try and leave memtest running at night. Btw I upped my VDDP voltage to 900mv for this overclock. Did you get your Ram Timings from the Ryzen Mem calculator? That's what I have been using, with the manual memory profile.

Is the RAM model number CMW32GX4M2C3200C16? Then yeah it's probably the best combination if you don't want to spend loads on RAM or need a specific feature on another motherboard. And if you don't plan to mess around much then that RAM will easily do 3400mhz with its advertised 16-18-18-36 timings with no other changes needed in BIOS. Just load the XMP profile (called "D.O.C.P" in Asus BIOS for AMD) and set it to 3400mhz.

Yeah i got my timings from Ryzen DRAM Calculator but it's not much help for this memory/platform (doesn't support "Calculate Fast" and only goes up to 3466) so i also try random stuff and see if it works lol. I tried 16-16-16-40 at 3466mhz with 1.4v last night and that wont boot. I also load the D.O.C.P profile and tweak the memory settings from there. No idea if the Manual profile makes any difference. Haven't had time to test any more settings though, but did you get any lower timings at 3600? I think 16-20-20-42 miiiight be possible...
 
@MR.B Yeah the latest DRAM calculator doesn't follow support TR40 but I just used it as a guide and borrowed some experience from running the 3900x with half of the RAM. I have not tried 3600 at tighter timings, because CB benchmarks showed it to be 100+ faster than 3200cl14 tight and i'm just relieved to run it at 3600 even loose. BTW I used Manual profile and a safe preset in the calc to get the loosest timings but with the highest chance to work. v1 and v2 profile produce tighter timings that cause lots of errors to crop up fast. Also I am running procODT at 60 Ohms if I remember correctly. If I remember correctly, if I either don't run procODT at 60 Ohms or VDDP at 900mv it won't boot. Running RAM at 1.43v after some memtest errors, seems happy now. Maybe 16-20-20-42 is possible, but I ain't trying :p.

@tommoT.Striker Ohh so that's what V1/V2 profiles do in Calculator, because i tried V1 before for 3400 and had no issues. And if 1.43v can only just get stability then maybe 16-20-20-42 isn't possible without too much voltage... And i'll be running 24/7 so i'm not going higher lol. Did you tweak any other timings apart from the 16-21-21-42 at 3600, or just leave them on Auto? If you tweaked any i'd really appreciate a screenshot if possible because the Calculator doesn't support 3600. BTW i get 13,850-ish in CB with PBO enabled, and without it i scored over 350 less so it's a decent increase and hasn't done much to temperatures.

Only thing to note is I got my procODT from setting processor to Ryzen 2, and taking the alt 1 setting there which for me was 60 Ohms. For Threadripper 2 it's blank. You might not have to change yours so you can leave it. BTW 1usmus the next release will support TRX40 boards so might be a big help too. Everything I set to the Rec. values, didn't set tRFC1, 2 etc only tRFC.

Set VDDP to 900mv, ram AB and CD to 1.43v. Power Down Mode and Gear Down Mode enabled.

My 4.2Ghz all core over clock at 1.275v gives me a CB20 of 14,284. I know others with better RAM can get 4.2Ghz all core at over 14,500+

So you used the Samsung B-die setting in the calculator even though this memory is Micron D-die, i didn't know you could do that. I'll try those setting in a few days when i have time to properly memtest/bench them.
 
Well, we have found the source of the problem. All four stick of my Corsair are Samsung B-Die, albeit not the best binned. That's why I thought it was fine to up my Ram voltage. Dunno where we got our wires crossed, but I thought you had B-Die too. Here is my Thaiphoon Burner output. I'm guessing yours says Micron D Die @MR.B ?

@tommoT.Striker You also have CMW32GX4M2C3200C16 so i assumed the dies would naturally be the same. I checked the boxes too and it's definitely that model. Seems like Corsair have changed the memory dies but kept the same model number, which is really dodgy...

That is dodge isn't it. Cheeky as. And there is no real way of knowing what is inside. I got CMW32GX4M2C3200C16 and CMU32GX4M2C3200C16 three years apart from different stores, one is White LED, the other RGB and they're both the same bdie chips.
 
Yeah Corsair can seriously F off with that. You got lucky in the silicon lottery because even cheap B-die is still better. DRAM calculator also says "not supported" when i select 3600 for Micron D-die so i'm not even going to try CL16 at 3600 because i can't see it ever working now. I'll probably just use 3400 or 3466 with 16-18-18-36 :( at least it only needs 1.35v.
