Not really seeing much point in the 1900x. It's a 1800x with more PCIe lanes and quad channel plus a more expensive platform right?

The entry-level HEDT chip having all PCIe lanes and memory channels opened up? Intel would not stand for this! You've just stated the reason someone might want it right there.
It's the cheapest way to get the PCIe lanes and the quad channel memory.
Any ETA on 1900x news? ... it's payday!
Hmm had my eyes on the 8700k as i figured it would be a 7700k with more cores, but this is certainly interesting, the 1900X could be a good option instead, its basically a better version of the 1800X it seems while offering Quad Channel mem which should give some decent gains in itself.
Well, time to wait to see reviews on both before i decide which direction to go.
Nvme raid coming to X399 in Sept by way of bios/driver update

So 3.8GHZ baseclock and upto 4.2GHZ if you include XFR. A shame the Ryzen 7 1800X didn't have the same binned cores - they probably would have had a 4.0GHZ~4.2GHZ part.
Sounds good, you got a source?
They are already available in another website. It shouldnt be long until ocuk has them in stockAny ETA on 1900x news? ... it's payday!
Its in the article linked above.

The 1900x is priced apparently at 550£. More expensive than intel's
X299 8 core alternative which is presumably faster
Edit: it is 519£ here in ouck.
Yup, so basically the same now.
It essentially comes down to if you want a better platform with longevity (1900X) or you want slightly better IPC and better overclocking (7820X).
That's obviously assuming that the buyer isn't a fan boy, then no argument presented on here about the advantage or disadvantage of either chip is going to persuade you.
CPU performance aside, it seems intel has the cost advantage here which very unlike them!
Cheaper motherboards, at least on OCUK. I haven't looked anywhere else and doesn't require b-die to get decent speeds.
This is AMD's 7740k, pointless imo.
NVMe RAID support
AMD has also announced a free update to the X399 platform – which Threadripper CPUs run on – which brings NVMe RAID support, allowing for incredibly fast data transfer speeds. This update includes NVMe RAID drivers, and supports bootable RAID 0, 1 and 10 modes for up to 10 devices.
The x399 boards are better though.
Oh I dunno, my uni have just ordered 8 for use in systems loaded with with compute cards. The PCIe lanes are going to be a big draw. You don't need lots of cores when all your processing will be done on compute cards.
