Is that TWO PCI-E power connectors

How the hell can I run 2 cards..
My Enermax liberty only has two PCI-E plugs in total!

how come lots of peeps are plumping for 4870x2 now? Is it going to be better optimised than the 3870x2?
can't wait for 4870, tho not sure I ACTUALLY need one...

wish the cards would hurry up got a quad core waiting :( getting the 4850 will wait a few months before i even think about going to 4870

you'll need a better PSU then!!

Most high end PSUs now come with 4 PCI-E plugs due to the popularity of 8800GTXs I guess.

Although did I see the GTX280 uses an 8 and a 6 pin? if you fancy going that way..

It should be. AFAIK the 4870x2 is what ATI/AMD view as the future, it's not just a card for bragging rights. The R700, codename for 4870x2 or whatever it will be called, has been talked about even before the R600 was released so there must be a lot more to it than the 3870x2 with rv770 cores. The goal, I believe, is that they are aiming for a shared memory pool instead of each core having their own separate pool which would be a big step forward.

Wow, a personal pool?. I think I'll go to hotel ATI this year :p. :D Just joking.

R700 has been in the pipeline for a while but with R600 being what it was, I doubt this to be true that they've been sitting with a much better card all this time. If RV670 (3850/70) was the 2900 series then I could have believed that more but with ATI changing the cards efficiency within 6 months of R600's release I doubt they've been sitting on a monster this whole time.

I think the 4 series card will be good but I doubt they had it for ages.

Here's a riddle for ye, assuming the 3870X2 and 9800 GTX perform within a margin that is similar enough to call 'the same', the 4870 is supposed to be 1.4x faster than a 9800 GTX, and the GTX280 is supposed to be 1.8x faster than the 3870X2. Which card performs better, the GTX280 or 4870X2?

Well one 4870 is meant to be at least as powerful as the 3870X2 so following that logic the 4870X2 should be the same if not more powerful then the 280GTX. Being honest i don't care if Ati is faster or slower then Nvidia all i care about is never having to ever see another Nvidia driver by having Intel chipset and Ati gfx card :D.

Thats the way i see it now, i couldn't care less if Nvidia cards are faster, if AMD's perform good enough, then ill get one, had enough of no driver support, fair enough we get them leaked and modded so we can still get some at least, but we shouldn't have to, them ***** should be doing em on a regular basis, and these GT200's are just going to go the same way, they'll up a set of drivers for em on launch day, then thats gona be it till about December (6 months away), unless you hunt around for leaked ones like the 5/6/7/8 and 98 owners, no thanks Nvidia, you can stick em, if i ever come back into it, its AMD only for me. :)

bang on loadsa. i dont care if the 4870s are 1/2 the speed of the GTX280, they are much better than the 7800GT i have, i cant stand nvidia drivers.

Is it just me or does the 4870 have a 2900XT cooler?

If so then really cool temps, since if it could cool a 2900 then 4870 no problem.

If the 4870 is 1.4x (40%) faster than a 3870X2, and the GTX280 1.8x (80%) faster than a 3870X2, it would make the GTX280 about on par with a 4870X2 (2x 40% = 80%).

My head is hurting. :(

The 4870 is suppose to be ~25-30% faster than a 9800gtx which is about equal to a 3870x2. So if the "leaked" nvidia charts are right and the G280 is 80% faster than the 3870x2 we can assume the 4870 is only 40% slower than it. 40% scaling should be a minimum for what ATI are aiming for with the r700 given the 3870x2 achieved that on average.
