AMD To Launch RV770 On June 18th

From my experience OC is very good at having the latest stuff ready to ship on launch day....... they blantantly pay a premium for it, which will get past on to you the customer. But if you want to be the first, then thats the price you pay.

The majority of other online retailers probably wont have them available until a good week or so after release.

Well I'm pretty sure my 3850 at 900/2160 beats an 8800GT by a good margin....so I would expect another 160 shaders, with their own independent clock, and a higher core clock to perform much better.

Yeah im hoping they are a pretty good increase over them, as that would be a huge amount of sales they would lose id have thought, as theres absolutely millions of people ot there now with 8 series, and 29/38 etc... series cards, least got to give them a reason to upgrade as well, be no good if they only around their performance, few frames faster.

Im just hoping we still get the reviews of em on the original 16th date, let people know how they perform, and when up against the GT200's, as i can't see many wanting to wait a week to see how good/bad they are, as they'll just get GT200's if they already reviewed and out to buy.

Apparantly Nvidia is keeping the 9 series thing going though. That is just going to complicate matters further, renaming the 8800GT the 9800GT, while having the 200 series cards (less ofcourse it becomes something like the 240 GTX).

Nordichardware is saying the core clock of the 9800GT is 630Mhz vs 600Mhz stock on the 8800. So Nvidia's answer to the 4850 is essentially what they have now :\ Still there was no say on specific details or how the 30Mhz core clock was acheived (as in overclock/underclock, whatever). if it is just a rename like the beloved 8800GTS > 9800GTX I suppose we can take the performance ''gains'' stock of each and as a percentage and apply them to the 9800GT.

Assuming the price stays the same fine, I can't see Nvidia getting away with charging a premium for a black PCB this time :\

forgiver my stupiddity but if the 4850 are in the region of the 8800 gt (note in region of) then why buy a 4850, surely NVIDIA will be reduicng the price of the 8800GT when the 2xxs come out? making them cheaper than the 4850 for simalair performance?

No they pay the same as everyone else... they just get priority over other stores because of the volume they buy and sell.

GT200's wont affect the pricing on the mid range cards, as they are at the high level.

The renamed 8800 GT on the 55nm process (and clocked slightly higher, by having a whopping extra 30mhz on the core, big wow lol) is supposed to be Nvidia's answer to the 4850.

I can't see nvidia being able to lower the price much more on an 8800gt will probably end up costing them money instead of making a profit.

i think they can reduce the pricw as basicly they have raked it in with the g80/g92 core's. Even if they loose money on it they would taking away market share and profits destined for the 4850 cards

Market share is all well and good, but if your not making money forget it. Imagen explaining that to shareholders/board of directors. Even if they did agree to it, Nvidia's sales team couldnt assure them that they would maintain the market share, let alone recover lost profit.

Selling below cost with the intent of weakening the competition in the market is highly illegal. No rational business as mentioned would intentionally give up profits and therefore if nvidia did do that, their motives become clear.

With the EUs aggressive stance on anti-comtetitive behaviour, nvidia would never consider such a policy.

bla bla bla
When Sony launched the PS3 they were making a heavy loss of each console sold,
'The PlayStation 3's initial production cost is estimated to have been US$805.85 for the 20 GB model and US$840.35 for the 60 GB model.[68] However, they were priced at US$499 and US$599 respectively,[69] meaning that every unit was sold at an estimated loss of $250,[68] contributing to Sony's games division posting an operating loss of ¥232.3 billion' Wikipedia

Would't this be the same as Nvidia selling for a loss?

no because the console market is all skewed by them licencing games off the back of the consoles, nvidia would have no route to recouping any losses like sony have.

Plus consoles are all about the installed base meaning they can keep selling them as the price for manufacturing comes down, the market for them is so much longer than gfx cards.

Finally if you want to play ps3 games etc you NEED a ps3 so there is something to be said for loss leading to grab market share, however any ATI or NV graphics card will broadly speaking do the same thing so buying a customer on this round by no means guarantees you'll keep them.

So no.. its not the same at all.

So no need for the blah blah blah, especially when you're talking nonsense.
