AMD To Launch RV770 On June 18th

i'm thinking this time I might break the bank and go for the gDDR5 model as the step up from gDDR3 to gDDR5 is much more significant than from 3 to 4 as on the 38xx models.

If
a 4870 is 1.3x better than a 4850
and 4850 is a little better than a 8800gt
then the 4870 will be equal to a 9800 gtx
Was expecting a little more

To be fair. Only a single source has said this. The vr-zone 3dmark vantage test suggests the 4850 is up with the 9800gtx in performance.

I think ATI are going to do well in the mid range section TBH, but only the benchmarks will tell for certain.

Also your signature is over the 4 line max :p

would a 4800 series be a good investment to go with a new X48 motherboard, and core2 cpu.

i play eq2 @ 1680x1050 and would like to turn up somesettings and get more than 20 frames per second.

also i intend to play warhammer online when it is released mo idea what specs i ned for that yet.

Thanks

When can we expect some reviews? About a week maybe?

Hopefully a week, but a part of me has a feeling it won't be until a day or so before release of the cards, because of the NDA. I guess we won't know though, until Firing Squad, Toms or whatever site suddenly pop up with a review with something like "so we have been playing around with the card for the past 3 weeks and..."

*edit*

The main reason I want the 4870 is because of the 1 GB of ram truthfully and the slightly faster clocks. I am still not sure between the 4870 and 260 and 280 though. I think the price and performance of all 3 cards is going to be the major thing for me. But we shall see :p

Maybe be false just like all rumours, so...

*edit8 - just incase you don't get it, it implies that the RV770 doesn't have a separate clock domain and instead has 800 "stream Procs" to reach rumoured 1 teraflop mark.

EQ2 maxed even with a 4800 GPU I dont think will run fine, my 8800GT system cant even run EQ2 maxed, have to turn quite abit down, dont know why, proberbly crappy engine. I came from an X800XTPE to an 8800GTS 640 and it was no different in fps, apparently it may be due to shadows and all that and been very very CPU Intensive.

More 'cores' means even the slightest overclock is magnified. Like 200mhz on the core is worth much much more than 320cores upped by 400mhz, so its looking good for all.

eq2 makes comparativly little use of the gpu and has no multi-core support either so it runs on a single core as well -/

Have AMD fooled everyone?

If these are true, the r700 will be a 2TFLOP monster. The 3dmark vantage score showing the 280gtx being outperformed by the r700 by 15% makes a lot more sense now.

edit: Apparently fake, with the sign being the failure to alternate colours for each row. Then again this could be a genuine mistake or done intentionally to mean something.

The 4870 X2 was already gonna be a 2TF card. Actually these specs hardly change the playing field at all (maybe skew it slightly more in AMD's favour). :\

Besides, I thought the 800 shader rumour was out of date...
