AMD To Launch RV770 On June 18th

Am I right in thinking that if I have already owned a highly overclockable 8800GTX, I should not get excited at all by these new releases from ATI until 4870X2 arrives? (btw, I'm not interested in XFire or XFire X either). Would love to go back to ATI in August :D

Well the 4850 pretty much smashes the 8800GTX so I'd be excited but it's not worth the hassle of changing really.

Crossfiring them is another option. I'm glad I sold my GTS last week. It may be worth **** all now :p

Looking at the Guru3D review the 4850 really does look like a sweet little bit of kit, very tempting to nab one however will wait and see what kind of can of whup-ass the 4870 is able to open ;)

Seems like ATI have really listened to criticism of the 29/38 series here, the new 48 seem to have cracking performance for the $ again, just this time without the downside of low AA performance.

Nice to see them back in the game, especially since I might even occasionally get drivers with ATI rather than relying on NV betas :D

Looks like the 48 series should be the true sucessor to the X1900 cards :)

No the 4850 and by all accounts it is only a bit faster than an 8800 gtx so if it's way more than the price of a second hand gtx I really don't see what all the fuss is about.
Lets say I can get 60 fps for £100 why on earth would I pay £200 for 75 fps.

They're already on sale for around £130... and the price will drop in the coming weeks. Where on earth did you get £200 from.

The 4850 will be no where near £200 It's already been spotted in other retailers for a significant amount less in the UK. :)

It's $200. It'll be a fair bit cheaper than £200.

That is what the fuss is about, not because they're record breaking performers, but because they claim the mid-range.

But I have seen this before where cards are advertised at a price and not actually available at that price then 2 days later everywhere is more than that price.

The 8800gt was advertised at around £140-£150 2 days later it was like £180+ everywhere.
I have googled to death and cant find the 4850 available anywhere.

The 4850 is a beast of a card, its very impressive, quiet and cheap, in crossfire it sacles very well, all i can say now.

Take your word for it then just had a feeling the price would increase as it matches the £200 ish cards performance.
