AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

I don't see why not, 'if' they are doubling the core count there might be an argument for not, on mid to lower end boards sure but for the higher end X470's they have 8, 10, 12 phase VRMs you could run an overclocked 7900X on them, and they are 7nm.

Lower and mid range Ryzen 3000 should be fine on lower and mid range 400 series boards.
Sorry. It was just a comment in response to an earlier LePhuronn post. I should have quoted, especially given the hype sensitivity in here today. ;)

Perfect. Exactly what I needed to hear!

Don't hold me too it too much :D but the basic logic is sound I think.

As to board specifics, you'll have to do some research and see what that board can do with the current 8 core Ryzen 2Ks. But 8 12nm cores vs 8 7nm cores? I'd be very surprised if you saw issues. All that's needed is for MSI to do a BIOS update.

I suppose I can, but it seems a bit of a waste to spend a fair amount on the cpu right now only to get rid of it in a couple of months time. Also if i was to get a 1000 series chip, wouldnt I need to update the bios? Not sure how to do that as im new to this whole thing.

Also, is a X470 mobo better to have in regards to handling future cpu chips? If so, what one would you recommend that I get. I was originally planning on getting a MSI B450 pro carbon AC, but im thinking I may just upgrade to x470 if it'll be more worthwhile

You can pick up a 1000 series pretty cheaply, especially 2nd hand to tide you over a few months, and you can sell it on, for very little loss when the 3000 series is released. The BIOS on the newer B450/X470 will work with 1000 series out the box as they are newer than the CPUs.

I see you were going for a 3600 so at most it will be a 8c/16t chip, which even a B450 will work with as they currently work fine with 2700's which are 8c/16t.

There should be no issues running a 3000 series CPU on a B450/X470, except maybe the very top end Ryzen 9 series on the B450, but you aren't looking at those so it's a moot point.

Put it this way, I'm on a X370 board, with a 1600x chip. I'm hoping to put a 3600/3700x in this board which will be 2 generations behind, but still expect it to work properly as that is what was promised. It was the whole point I switched to AMD, so that future CPU upgrades meant I didn't have to buy a motherboard as well.

I'v just made our channel ready :D

Explained it perfectly thanks! :D

yeah I dont plan on going for a extreme cpu, so a 3600 or a 3600x will be more than enough for me. Maybe a 3700 at the absolute most, but even that seems overkill for someone like me so the 3600 it is once it comes out!

Yeah I might just do what you suggested and get a 1000 series chip in the meantime, and then upgrade to 3000 series later once it comes out!

I was meant to be but had to get my dog put down last night (it was coming but didn't think quite that early). So now I'm not in London. Could very much do with something to take my mind of the pain.

Awee.. man I'm so sorry for your loss. Nothing worse than losing a family member and friend. :(

Ah man that sucks, sorry to hear that. Let's hope AMD has good things for us :D

It's more painful than I ever managed it could be. Horrendous. I'm glad this AMD nonsense is giving me something to focus on.

Nothing can prepare you for it, and afterwards it feels like your heart has been wrenched out and your guts twisted and feeling constantly sick. As with everything, only time will help lessen the pain, but not lessen the memories of the goods times.
