AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

Then it's incredibly likely you'll be a very sad man :( even with the opportunities presented by Intel right now, I still can't see Ryzen 3000 coming sooner than March/April as it's always done.

Dont ruin my very slim hopes!

If thats the case im just going to stick to a very cheap 2000 series build right now, and then upgrade later next year

My 1700 build is two years old in March. A bit early for a full new system but I will upgrade the CPU this year as It may be the last AM4 full support release.

@Mercutio A flagship motherboard is the way to go. At one time I was not too bothered when motherboards were little more than a backplane for all the cards. Then I discovered ABIT with their excellent bios'. Nowadays I spend comparatively more on the motherboard to ensure better support and hopefully longevity.

What? You are going to wait a year, and over pay for out of date tech because you might have to wait another 4-6 weeks? You can be 100% sure there will be no R3xxx products before the end of Feb.

Well im in dire need of a pc right now, so I can't really afford to wait until April, thats the main issue im having!

And if that is the case, then i think ill be better off holding onto this build and upgrade when the 4000 series gets released in 2020

What is your current computer, what is wrong with it and what are you doing with it that makes it dire need?

My current pc is a 2009 dell studio... I dont think much more needs to be said. Its extremely slow now and on its last legs, its only use is pretty much browsing the internet and even then I cant have too many chrome tabs open as the 4gb ram struggles.

Hence why im in the process of building a new one for its many benefits, and ive already bought some components for it

could you not just get a decent X470 mobo now with a 2nd hand 2000 or 1000 series CPU, then just upgrade to the 3000 when they do actually release?

If you have not already, plonk an SSD in the Dell for about £20-30 (120-240GB) and 4GB more RAM for £10, clean install of Windows 10, job done it'll see you though for browsing etc.

I suppose I can, but it seems a bit of a waste to spend a fair amount on the cpu right now only to get rid of it in a couple of months time. Also if i was to get a 1000 series chip, wouldnt I need to update the bios? Not sure how to do that as im new to this whole thing.

Also, is a X470 mobo better to have in regards to handling future cpu chips? If so, what one would you recommend that I get. I was originally planning on getting a MSI B450 pro carbon AC, but im thinking I may just upgrade to x470 if it'll be more worthwhile

I suppose thats worth a shout, but im getting more into PC gaming now and it just seems like im prolonging the inevitable at this point. Its been a long time since ive had a new pc, and i feel like its time to get one now

You've been given loads of sensible advice above.

It's bonkers to build a whole new system NOW with new product launches around the corner. It's your call though.

I wasn't suggesting otherwise, just giving you some breathing room at a cost of about £10 since the SSD could be reused in your new build, once the 3xxx CPU's are actually in the shops. :)

true.... Im unsure if 3700X @ 5ghz or waiting till 1st May for the 3850X @ 5.1ghz is the way forward. Will be grabbing the best X570 board I can lay hands on though, sod having anything short of a flagship this time.

Edit: that said, I bet 1st May is 3850x announcement rather than release :(

I don't think the extra price of the 3850x is going to be worth it, plus the extra wait. But yes I want a top X570 board too, want high end stuff all round for the first time!

well you say its around the corner, but its still several months away..

Even so, the only real parts of the build that'll change will be the cpu. If i splurge on a decent enough mobo now then I wont even need to worry about that upgrading that for the time being

Yeah me neither. I think 3700/3800x is going to be the high end sweet spot. I bet they OC the same or close bit like the 1700/1700x 2700/2700x

Lol and look at the like to dislike ratio, 1.5K to 10..... Its not even started yet and already 1500 people like what they see, WTF? AMD had better deliver.

Whatever that say there's going to be a lot of disappointed folk. AMD don't need to hype anything, there's too many rabid AMDers doing that for free :p
