AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

Going above 1800MHz IF with decent timings seems to help games that are sensitive to latency quite a lot (i.e. ones that the 9900K is ahead in), but doesn't seem to help in productivity work.

It is now all hooked up.
Seems that Asus "just works"
Tuf X570 Gaming WiFi came with bios version 0406 which is a pre-release bios. That'll need updating, but first it is time for a fresh install of Windows 10.

Yes. Despite some bad press I have never had an issue with asus. Always works well for me. I am sure others will disagree but always solid as far as I am concerned. My x470 prime pro with 3700x seems rock solid after latest bios with score of 2158 in cinebench

The Tuf is a good board, decent enough VRM for the 3900x and the same they use all the way up to the £300 boards. The only downside is Realtek LAN, but if you want Intel you can get a PCI-E card for about £15.

I observed the following gains with regards to gaming messing with RAM...

Shadow of the Tomb Raider benchmark at 1080p highest preset:

3600MHz 1800FLCK C16 (67.1ns) = 137fps
3800MHz 1900FLCK C16 (64.7ns) = 142fps
3800MHz 1900FLCK C15 (63.8ns) = 149fps
101.8 blck x 3733Mhz 1866FLCK C15 (63.5ns) = 152fps

CPU: 3700X - Stock PBO off
GPU: 2080ti - Stock
MB: MSI MEG ACE X570 AGESA 1.0.0.3AB
RAM: 16GB 3866C18 8-Pack

This is at 1080p though

Yea I have read that some gains can be made particularly in min frame rates in some games but I game at 4K so it makes naff all difference to me. I would also struggle to notice those extra 12 frames per second on top of 137fps.

Crikey these chips are warm. My 1600 would idle at around 32, load about 65 under my Kraken X62, this 3900X idles at around 50, load it has hit as high as 80.

Is this normal?! On a completely clean install with latest BIOS and Chipset drivers installed using the Ryzen Balanced plan

Watching CAM - It is bouncing between the 50's and mid 60's all the time!?
Remember when People ware making fun for Intel chips being hot ?? WHERE ARE THEY NOW ??

@Smak I had a look what Geardown setting in Bios You got I assume You are running cl15 cause 14 is unstable ?? MAybe LOOSEN tRC to 46 going lower on tRFC than 288 i noticed no much gain on latency. As I said last night or this morning.... From going cl16 to cl14 my latency moved barely 0.1-0.2 down.

what motherboard You are on ?? And are You using performance BAIS setting do you even have it ?? I tested and posted impact of all 4 options some time ago if you got option set CB15 that could cut latency down a bit.

Yeah, some of the sub £200 boards cannot properly handle the 3950x or any 8+ core overclocked but the Tuf would. It's just not as efficient as some of the most expensive boards.

Meh, Not too fussed about efficiency to be fair.
I've spied a deal for a 3700X equipped with a Tuf gaming board for under £500 so very tempted to bite. Or the Strix-F for £30 more.

The efficiency comes into play when you're running a higher end chip as the less efficient the VRM, the more heat it produces delivering the power to the CPU, and if the VRM overheats the system will crash or it'll throttle the CPU. That's the issue with some of the cheap boards, they can power a 3900x but the useless heatsink they put on does nothing to cool the VRM and it'll be unstable.

As for the Strix, it's the same VRM so only consider it if you want the extra features for £30.

Let me have a look.
Noticed some people started getting close to my score so spend 5 hours tweeking on top of tweeking and tweeking and got this.... Look on my Wite and Copy speeds :]

Pretty impressive there, im still on a quest to get 3800/1900 working, it's taking all day because of I get it wrong it takes 10 minutes to get it to post again. It's so painful lol

Yeah I'm at 4K too and the differences are 1-2fps but at 1080 the gains are pretty reasonable for those that like to compare to the Intel :D

Well I managed to get a really good RAM OC to work properly with 64.3ns, 100% stable and efficient.

In order to beat that I need to mess around with my BCLK @Zeed You have the advantage on speeds because it's a 3900X, not fair :(

YE BUT we are in MLCT aka 'Memory Latency Championship Trophy' You get sub 63 and you get the

I have no idea what to do but I am getting horrible boot issues now with my CH6. It just randomly refusing to boot, sits there at 100% GPU speed killing my ears. It gives random error codes.

I have to turn off and on multiple times just to get the damn thing to boot and when it does it tells me my overclocking has failed. The strange thing is I can then reboot with DDR at 3600 CL16 (or 3800 at looser timings) and it will pass Karhu RAM test for as long as it takes for me to get bored.

I even tried setting all CPU and DDR settings to auto (DDR2400) and it will still do this at random.

It's not stability, it just the boot problem.
You tried the fixed up alpha bios'es ??
Those are from Asus Could help worth a try

Amazing! Hahaha a quality award, legit
Hard tip guys its all about lowet readout You can get in Aida on mem latency. You can click Latency how many times you want and it runs ONLY latency.
It's like trying to load a game from tape deck on c64 or atari. Pres PLAY dont breath look at thebox hoping for sub 63 number to post on forums... Cause lets face it that 1ns wont brake no gaming or productivity records :D
Pure Epeen the I can do what You can not thing :P
